(bright music) - Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is celebrating its 10th anniversary in its Draper location, and they're hosting a family friendly New Year's Eve on December 31st with live music and more.
Karmel Harper is here to tell us all about it.
Hi Karmel, how are you?
So it's actually you're having kind of two anniversaries.
- We are, this Noon Year's Eve happening on Sunday, December 31st is a really big celebration.
It's an annual celebration that we have at the aquarium and people can come and ring in the new year with their children.
And we're gonna have two confetti countdowns, one at noon and one at 3:00 PM and it's a nice way to ring in the new year.
And the kids don't have to stay up late, they get to party, enjoy some live music, as well as enjoy all of the wonderful galleries and animals at the aquarium.
But 2024 is a big deal because it is a 10th year anniversary at the Draper location and it's also the 25 year anniversary from when our founder, Brent Anderson, started with the Aquavan.
- I actually remember that, I remember the Aquavan and look how you've grown.
- Yes, it is quite amazing.
- Yeah, and you're going to be growing some more.
So talk about the new science learning center that you've got planned.
- Yes, so if you happen to drive by the aquarium on the I-15, you remember eco, the big structure out there.
Now there are some giant concrete walls up and maybe you're seeing it continue to build up and that is a new science learning center.
It is gonna be about 118,000 square feet, almost double the size of the current aquarium now and there's gonna be a multi-level Asia habitat.
Our Komodo dragon which we just got, the little baby Komodo dragon which we just got in June is going to move there, along with all the other Asia animals and it's some additional animals.
So he's gonna have a large space, multi-level, and it's gonna be wonderful, some additional classrooms, about 15 or so new classrooms for field trips, and yeah, it's gonna be a great space.
- Wonderful, congratulations on the anniversaries, on the new center and noon day celebration.
Thanks for being here, Karmel.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about the Living Planet Aquarium New Year's Eve, well, it's not really New Year's Eve, Noon Year's Eve, December 31st, it's at noon and three.
They'll have countdowns in the aquarium lobby.
