Just really, really good people and they make the place.
(upbeat music) I've been in the business with my business partner for about 18 years now.
We moved back down here to Daufuskie doing odd jobs here and there, and then Brad wanted to do a restaurant again.
So he found this place.
We were set to open the day that (indistinct), that was our grand opening.
But anyways, opened this place up and he was trying to come up with a name.
And I said, "Well, you should name it after your grandma, because that's the reason why you're here."
His grandmother growing up, basically taught him how to cook, got him involved in the restaurant business and stuff and so we named it after her.
We named it Lucy Bell's.
Lucy Bell's very well respected on the island.
A lot of the people that do the golf carts and stuff, they're like go to Lucy Bell's, go right now 'cause they get real busy and they run out of food towards the end of the day.
So, just been very popular with locals and tourists.
If South Carolina was a dish it would definitely be devil crab, especially in the low country.
Devil crab is a Goa dish.
It's basically lumped blue crab meat mixed with savory spices and stuffed and baked in the shell.
Then you also get rice, collard greens and coleslaw and that's very specific to Daufuskie, it's a traditional Goa dish.
You pull up, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very simple, good food, low country seafood and stuff like that.
But people love to sit here by the tree and then like the locals, they're just, the whole culture and everything it's just a great experience sitting here outdoors instead of indoor dining and stuff.
And there's people that come here even when it's raining, and they'll sit outside and in the rain and eat the food, they love it that much.
