(upbeat music) - Lux Choral Society is holding its Easter Reflections concert in the historic Salt Lake Tabernacle.
And here to tell us about it is artistic director and founder, Leland Spindler.
Hi, Leland.
So, it's 10 years now since you've formed this group.
- 10 years.
It's incredible that we've been able to go this long.
- Yeah, it's wonderful.
And Lux is actually Latin for.
- Yeah, it's Latin for light.
And as a group we try and create experiences that help people feel like they can connect to the divine and to share light.
- [Mary] Okay.
And I know you're non-denominational.
- Non-denominational, interfaith.
No matter where you are in your faith journey, we have a place for you.
- Alright.
And you've got 300 members now.
- So currently we've got about 100 members, but this year for our 10th year anniversary, we've invited back a lot of our alumni and friends that we've performed with over the years.
So it's a 300 person choir with full orchestra this year.
- [Mary] Full orchestra?
- Yeah.
- [Mary] Wow.
- We're very excited.
It's gonna be a new experience for all of us.
- Oh, yeah.
Okay.
And what will they be performing?
- We're doing music that outlines the Passion Week.
So some of them are standard hymns, "How Great Thou Art," and there's some new works also.
One of our alumni wrote a version of "He is Risen" that we'll be singing, a piece by Mack Wilberg, "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling," and then some spirituals, "Crucifixion" by Adolph Hailstork.
But it's just a hodgepodge of music from throughout the centuries and different faith traditions.
- Okay, great.
And that will be on the 24th?
- The 24th.
- Which is Palm Sunday?
- Palm Sunday, yeah.
It's the first day of Passion Week.
Yeah.
- [Mary] And early this year?
- It's so early this year.
So early.
- [Mary] Yeah.
- Yeah, but we've been working hard, so we'll be ready.
We're excited to perform in such a historic venue.
- Great, great.
That's wonderful.
And I know you're also going on tour to Europe, so that's a big deal.
And thank you so much for being here.
Thanks.
- Thank you.
