Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship♪♪ Auther: I can't believe that it's finished.
It's as spectacular as I thought it would be.
I'm very pleased.
This is a project that we started working on before the pandemic, and I'm just so happy to see it realized.
Mac: Oh, it's so emotional to see all this work that Machine has made for so many years and that -- I've worn half of it.
So, it's really fun.
Bond: Well, it's very exciting when I see my friends just rise to the top like champagne bubbles.
What's happening right now is the work of many, many years.
Musto: The magic of Machine Dazzle is, first of all, everything is homemade.
He doesn't believe in labels or designers or store bought.
He might buy some fabrics and stuff like that, but he whooshes it up together like magic.
So, there is a lot of prep that had to do with with understanding Machine's history and turning that into a narrative and then connecting that narrative to costumes.
Probably the big star behind this show are the mannequins.
There's more than 80 mannequins.
They are all in dynamic poses just to give people an idea of what some of these costumes might have been like onstage.
Musto: He always believed in the best of everything, all together.
If you notice, his outfits are not about "less is more."
It's really "more is more."
But he really loves just doing up an extravaganza from head to toe.
I think Machine sees these works as living sculptures.
They do transform and morph over time.
There are parts that go from one performance to the next, but I would say that he's always very, very confident, has a vision from the get-go, knows what he's doing.
Well, everything is an evolution.
In a way, nothing really starts or ends.
I like that.
I consider my costumes living sculptures.
I change them.
They grow.
They evolve.
I don't consider anything finished ever because you never know what you're gonna change.
Auther: I really believe that students and young artists are gonna be deeply inspired by Machine's work.
Mac: I think for young people to see this work, I think it's about, take the broken pieces of yourself and transform them.
Machine Dazzle: Life is dangerous.
Drive fast.
Take chances.
That's real.
Life happens, and we're all here for the ride, so enjoy it.
Auther: Be inspired by his creative vision and his ability to bring together materials of the everyday world that surround him and create something that is mesmerizing both to the eyes and the mind.
Bond: The world is lucky to have Machine here, and I hope that more and more people get to experience the glitter and the glamour and the glory of Machine Dazzle.
