Speaking of festivities.
Laura is always dressed for the season, right Laura?
- Always.
- Look at this dress for the season, man.
I thought I was doing well just wearing the colors, but man Laura undid us all.
- I love it.
This is my fourth year.
I've been a candy cane.
I've been a Christmas tree.
I've been Olaf and this year I am the magical elf.
- Complete with ears and all.
- Yeah, so it's a great time.
I love my favorite show of the year that we do.
And it's just great to have all this wonderful talent.
- Yes.
- We're excited.
- We have so much talent here in the Permian Basin across West Texas.
And I know you said this is your favorite time of the year, right?
You have some wonderful memories.
- Wonderful memories.
I grew up, I cry a lot.
I'm not gonna cry.
I grew up in a wonderful family.
And just some wonderful Christmas memories.
I was thinking today about...
I grew up in Denver City, Texas which is just up the road or down the road somewhere.
But I remember going to midnight mass one year and midnight.
It's midnight mass, right?
And it was snowing, which is rare out here at Christmas.
And just walking up to that church with the snow and it was so quiet.
And I looked up in the stars and I thought, this is Christmas.
- Well, we all know living in the desert we don't often get a white Christmas but it's definitely something we can dream of, right?

I don't know about you but the sound of jingle bells ringing always brings a big smile to my face.
And moreover, so does spending the the evening with good friends and family.
So we wanna listen to another story, another memory.
Erica, please share with us what's one of your favorite family memories?
- Well, actually when I was growing up my dad would gather us around the living room and he would read the Christmas story, the traditional Christmas story.
And then we got to go and open one present on Christmas Eve each of us, to kind of tease us a little bit to get ready for Christmas morning.
So that's one of my fondest memories.
- Christmas Eve is always very special for my family as well.
And for those of us families that do have a little one one thing that definitely brings the magic alive in addition to the true traditional story is The Polar Express.

But I also like all the classic songs, all the carols all the songs celebrating the season.

I know for many holiday cheer involves a little bit of Santa Claus.
And so Carl, I know you have some great stories in that pocket of yours.
So please, I'm gonna sit down and make myself at home.
Tell us, do you have a great Santa memory?
- I really do.
I was about 13 years old and my father had been playing Santa Claus out at the Fort Bliss.
We were living in El Paso.
And he got home about six o'clock in the morning and came into my bedroom and said, "Get up and put this on."
And he threw an elf costume at me.
- [Shelby] Kinda like Laura's?
- It's the same one.
(audience laughs) And as a matter of fact I got up because you do what my dad says.
I got up, I put the elf costume on and he said, "Let's go."
We went and got in the car.
And he had been passing out gifts at the thing.
And I looked in the back and there was a big red bag full of gifts.
And he said, "We're leaving."
And we took off.
I had no idea where we were going or what we were doing.
And he was looking for houses that showed signs of children living there.
And he saw one and he pulled over and he said, "Let's go."
And I grabbed the bag and handed it to him and we went to the house and he knocked on the door.
And the parents naturally opened the door and looked at this man that they did not know wearing a Santa outfit.
And they said, "Yes."
And he said, "Merry Christmas."
And he burst right past them into the house.
And I went right behind him and he found the kids and began passing out the presents to the kids.
And they were just beside themselves with joy.
And when he'd finished he wished them all to Merry Christmas.
And out the door he went and I went behind them noticed that the parents were absolutely terrified but the kids were not.
We got back in the car and off we went to the next house that looked like they might have kids.
And we did that until the bag was empty.
- True generosity and the giving spirit at its best with a little terror for the parents, just for fun, right?
- Absolutely, yes.

- Oh my parents, they were the best.
And when I was a little girl, I wanted to be a cheerleader.
That was my life's goal.
And I was from Denver City, we were "The Mustangs".
And for Christmas, one year I got an authentic pair of Denver City mustang pompoms that all the high school cheerleaders used.
And I used those things for a week until one day I was doing a jump and I landed on a pork chop bone my dog had left on the floor.
That was the end of my jumping for a while.
- So we went from cheer to spreading holiday cheer as an elf, right?
- Yeah, that's true.
And then I have to say, as an adult one year, my youngest daughter wrapped up a box and I opened it and it was empty.
And I thought, oh, she must be broke.
(all laughing) - Just air, that's affordable.
- What she might have been But it was air.
And there was the cutest note in there and the most beautiful sentiment that the box was filled with her love.
And that's the most memorable adult gift I've ever gotten.
- Yeah, there's nothing better that a mother could ever receive than the unending love of their daughter, of their child.
