The egg shortage won't be ending anytime soon.
Washington farmers and suppliers say shortages will continue until avian bird flu is eradicated.
The timeline for that is unknown according to a Seattle environmental scientist.
The egg shortage that began last year made prices jump.
The Consumer Price Index reports nationwide egg prices were up 60% in one year.
Avian flu has been the major reason.
The US Department of Agriculture reports that over 58 million birds have been affected in 47 states.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife reported 151 cases of the disease in the state this past December.
To control the potential spread, the state agriculture department established policies for quarantine and the elimination of infected flocks.
