A federal judge has made a decision on Central Washington's legislative district boundaries after months of legal back and forth.
The new map boots some lawmakers out of their current districts.
The boundaries near the Yakima Valley had to be redrawn.
The judge said that was because the maps before diluted the voting power of the Latino community, a violation of the federal Voting Rights Act.
The new district boundaries mostly focused on the state's 14th and 15th legislative districts.
And they'll be used for this year's elections.
Read the full story and see what lawmakers affected by the changes have to say in this article on our Web site.
Spring is officially here.
And as we look ahead to summer, experts are worried.
Another hot and dry one is on the horizon.
Washington, Oregon and Idaho all have lower than normal spring snowpack right now.
Some farmers already being told they'll get about three quarters of their normal irrigation water this year or less.
We talked to a hydrologist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Here's Erin Whorton.
Snowpack typically peaks in early to mid April in northern Idaho, so we have about a month left to accumulate snow.
” You can check out spring snowpack maps on our Web site, NWPB.org.
Meantime, spring sports well underway with the season.
And there's a brand new team kicking off its season this year.
The TC Badgers are a semiprofessional soccer team.
We stopped by tryouts a couple of weeks ago in Richland, where we talked to Ahmed Colakovic.
He told us playing soccer makes him feel alive.
“I want to go on to play more like college ball or hopefully in like professional level as well.
” The TC Badgers will represent Tri-Cities in Washington, playing in the Evergreen Premier League.
Another new team called Three Cities also started up this year.
Three Cities will compete in the United Premier Soccer League.
Check out interviews and some great footage from those tryouts on our website.
And remember to fill out our NWPB election survey.
It's linked at the top of NWPB.org.
We'd love it if you shared it with your friends and family too.
