#### The Kentucky House today voted 56 to 35 to ban mask mandates in Kentucky public schools and universities.
Supporters said parents should make these decisions.
Some Republicans joined Democrats in opposing the bill, saying this is a matter for local school districts, not state government.
#### UK will revise its mask policy, starting tomorrow.
Masks will still be required in class, and in offices and meeting rooms with more than one person.
Masks will be optional in common areas, hallways, dining halls, and residence halls.
#### U.S.
Senator Mitch McConnell and Kentucky House Speaker David Osborne are among those praising former State Senator Joe Bowen of Owensboro, who died at the age of 71.
Bowen was a Republican who served from 2011 to 2018.
He also served in the State House from 2005 to 2006.
