I THINK MAYBE, SOMEHOW, I MIGHT POSSIBLY BE GETTING OLDER.
FOR YEARS I'VE BEEN TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO SO THEY CAN GET OLD.
I’M A DOCTOR.
THAT’S BASICALLY MY WHOLE JOB.
LIFE IS A GAME.
YOU GET OLD; YOU WIN.
BUT ALL THAT ADVICE I'VE GIVEN OVER THE YEARS, TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO, I DIDN'T MEAN ME.
THINGS ARE DIFFERENT NOW.
I USED TO EAT ANYTHING ANYTIME I FELT LIKE IT.
HALF A PUMPKIN PIE, GO LIE DOWN AND FALL ASLEEP IMMEDIATELY.
NOW IT MIGHT UPSET MY TUMMY.
I CAN'T RUN ANYMORE, AT LEAST IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE RUNNING.
IMMUNIZATIONS ARE MORE IMPORTANT NOW.
USED TO SHRUG OFF COLDS AND INFECTIONS.
NOW A CASE OF SNIFFLES COULD BE THE END OF ME.
AT 50 THERE’S ALMOST ALWAYS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU.
AT 60 THERE’S ALWAYS TWO THINGS.
BY 70 THERE ARE MAYBE THREE THINGS LEFT THAT STILL WORK THE WAY THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO.
I GET IT NOW.
WHEN PATIENTS TELL ME WHAT’S WRONG WITH THEM, I GO, "YEP, YOU’LL HAVE THAT."
IT’S LIKE A GAME.
FIRST YOU GET ONE MEDICINE TO TAKE EVERY DAY, THEN TWO.
IF YOU GET TO FIVE, YOU YELL “BINGO” AND SIGN UP FOR A COLONOSCOPY.
THAT'S THE KIND OF WEIRD MEDICAL PROCEDURE THEY DO WHEN YOU ARE OLDER.
THEY COULD NEVER DO ONE ON A YOUNG PERSON, BECAUSE THEY CAN STILL RUN FAST ENOUGH TO GET AWAY.
OF COURSE, IF YOU’VE BEEN A DOCTOR FOR A WHILE, YOUR PATIENTS WILL GET OLDER TOO.
WELL, THEY DO IF YOU’RE DOING YOUR JOB.
THAT’S THE BEST CASE SCENARIO.
WE ALL GET OLD TOGETHER.
WHEN GEORGE BURNS TURNED 100, HE SAID, “I’VE HAD THREE DOCTORS IN MY LIFE.
TWO OF THEM ARE DEAD.
ONE IS NOT FEELING SO GOOD.” SO IT COULD BE WORSE.
LUCKILY, I STILL LOOK THE SAME AS WHEN I STARTED DOING THIS A FEW YEARS AGO.
HEY, YOU GUYS, COME ON.
NOW THEY’RE NEVER GONNA BELIEVE ANYTHI
