(gentle music) The Chinatown-International District has been moved and reshaped time and again by major infrastructure projects.
Each time, the community persevered.
The neighborhood is still more than 43% Asian and home to many of the region's anchor Asian businesses and cultural institutions.
Now, community leaders fear the neighborhood may not survive the next upheaval.
A new line in Sound Transit's light rail expansion may require a second tunnel underneath the district.
The agency is considering two locations: Fifth Avenue or Fourth Avenue.
To make space for the Fifth Avenue plan, several buildings would be demolished, displacing 19 to 27 businesses and up to 230 employees.
The final decision won't be made until 2023 and construction will begin in 2026.
