(soft ambient music) Seattle has more dogs than children.
That's 153,000 dogs compared to roughly 107,000 kids.
But during the pandemic, some Seattleites struggled to care for their furry friends.
Luckily, pet owners like Molly Quinn are finding aid through shelters.
Quinn lost three part-time jobs during the pandemic.
Then, her seven-week-old puppy, Korra, got canine parvovirus, a highly infectious and commonly fatal disease.
Quinn learned that Korra's treatment and hospitalization could cost up to $21,000.
That's when Seattle Humane stepped in to provide thousands of dollars for Korra's treatment.
In nine days, she recovered.
Seattle Humane has been working with private and nonprofit vets to secure resources for the pet community.
The Pet Owners Assistance Fund was created specifically to help pet owners in need through the pandemic.
