Each spring and summer, through the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center, tribal elder and storyteller, Randy Lewis, leads day-long bus tours highlighting native history, and sacred sites through North Central Washington.
The tour, described as traveling back in time, allows participants to learn about the terrain, where the Wenatchee and Columbia Rivers were a gathering place for fishing, trade, and arranged marriages.
Lewis, also an award-winning oral historian for his work educating people about the tribes of the Inland Northwest, shares anecdotes about the lands his ancestors roamed, how incredibly valuable horses were to them, and how the semi-nomadic tribes traveled the region with the seasons, and the migratory patterns of the fish and game they relied on for food.
Lewis says the route of the tours is filled with stories.
