Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- My name is Rinchen Posel, I play the piano and violin and I compose.
I go to the Saugerties Junior High, but in September I'll be going to the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music in the UK.
(playing piano) (song continues) Today I played Rachmanioff's Etude-Tableau, Op.33 number seven in G minor.
It's my first Rachmanioff piece.
I've played a lot of pieces by Russian composers since I was little, but Rachmanioff is not for little kids.
(playing piano) I feel that this piece is emotional and beautiful.
There's a lot of searching and seeking, but there isn't really an arrival in the music.
The climax doesn't have a stable arrival, and even the ending, isn't quite an arrival either.
(playing piano) The middle section is very hard to play.
You have to have the right balance of having the left hand notes show, but you can't have them show too much, and you can't have the right hand notes too blended either, so that's challenging.
(playing piano) I want to be a concert pianist and a composer when I get older.
I find both of those things very enjoyable.
And it's nice to see people smile when I play my music for them.
(playing piano) (song continues) Susanne Son, the director of the Bard Conservatory Prep Division nominated me.
She's also my piano technique teacher.
I'd like to thank my piano teacher, Janara Khassenova.
She's been there half my life and seen me grow up from a little kid who played hide and seek in the studio to someone who can play Rachmanioff today.
And all my other teachers, Emmanuel Koh, my violin teacher.
Martha Sullivan, my composition teacher.
Shawn Jaeger, my musicianship teacher.
And Jessica Jones my jazz piano teacher.
And last but not least, I'd like to thank all the supporters for classical music programs for young musicians in the region.
Otherwise I wouldn't be able to learn classical music and go to a music school in the UK.
