The indications of a high-quality wine used to include a heavy glass bottle, a wooden cork and aluminum or tinfoil capsules.
But some wineries are challenging those notions in response to environmental sustainability and supply chain issues.
Fortuity Cellars, a winery in the Lower Yakima Valley, stopped using capsules for one of their high-end collections.
In 2019, Ste.
Michelle, the state's largest wine company, released cans for its 14 Hands brand.
And Seattle-based Full Pull Wines, which offers a curated selection of wines through its email newsletter, has featured wine in bag-in-a-box formats.
The owner of Full Pull Wines believes new generations care for sustainability as much as wine quality and demand for wine that reflects those values will increase.
