One of Seattle's beloved movie theaters will soon open its doors after uncertainty since 2020.
The Seattle International Film Festival, known as SIFF, announced they bought Cinerama from the late Paul Allen's umbrella company, Vulcan.
It's a second time in Cinerama's 60-year history that it's been saved from a dire fate.
In 2020, just before the pandemic hit, Cinerama closed suddenly for unspecified renovations.
SIFF executive director Tom Mara hails Cinerama's revival as welcoming people back to downtown.
Theater fans can also celebrate the return of the beloved chocolate popcorn.
SIFF plans to begin programming by the end of 2023.
But one thing that isn't so certain is the iconic name.
Vulcan had licensed the name from the original owner, but did not own Cinerama.
The new name has yet to be decided.
