Zulkifli Sales, who is studying geography data science, lives in South Seattle with his mother.
To attend classes in person, his commute takes about one hour.
Sales said living closer to campus would be easier, but being away from family and the cost of residence halls, which can be up to $3,000 a quarter, are deterring factors.
With more stations opening, students can live farther from campus in more affordable housing.
