KEYRIS MANZANARES: On primary election night, State Senator John McGuire claimed victory over Virginia's 5th Congressional District.
But the election results are still unclear.
JOHN McGUIRE: Everyone, listen, I know it's a late night, but I am so happy.
I'm kind of, there's probably a thousand things I want to say, but I would say this now is the time for us to lock our arms.
And if you voted for me, I'm super happy, and I'm going to earn that vote every day.
And if you did not vote for me, I'm going to work every day to earn your vote.
And so I hope we will all put our differences aside.
KEYRIS MANZANARES: All eyes were on the 5th District race as McGuire, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, faced conservative Congressman Bob Good.
Good left his watch party Tuesday without speaking to reporters.
On Wednesday, he posted this statement to social media saying the race was too close to call.
But McGuire continued celebrating his self-proclaimed victory and thanks Trump for his stamp of approval.
JOHN McGUIRE: I really got to thank somebody.
That's really a huge part of this win.
And we've got to get him back in the White House.
Lets thank President Donald J. Trump.
KEYRIS MANZANARES: Election results have yet to be certified On last check, McGuire is in the lead with 50.25% of the vote, while Goode has 49.75% of the vote, a margin of only 0.5%.
In Virginia, there is no automatic recount.
The apparent loser can request one if they received less than 1% of the votes, but only after the vote is certified.
