So this is Freya.

She's a leopard gecko, I'm Lizzy Larson, and I am the director of animal management and facilities at the Lake Superior Zoo.

And today, I am giving a demonstration at the PBS media camp.

So a lot of times people aren't able to come to the zoo, you know, physically come there So we have what we call zoomobiles, where we are actually able to bring part of the zoo to you with groups of animals that we have as ambassadors.

So we do everything with our animals based on choice and control.

So that means that we never force the animals to do anything that they don't want to do.

So to be able to bring these guys out on a program, we train them to tell us that, yes, I do want to go on a program or no, I don't want to go on a program.

So I started my career path, back in 2006 as a volunteer at the Como Zoo and Conservatory down in the Twin Cities.

And while I was a volunteer down there, I was going to school for animal science at the University of Minnesota.

One of the things that zoos are really important for is you can kind of think of them as kind of like a giant Noah's Ark.

So what zoos do is they will breed in those zoos, animals that are critically endangered or ones you know, that are not doing very well out in the wild, and they'll create this healthy, stable population of those animals within zoos, within human care.

So I'm super excited to be here with the PBS media camp today, because the students are the ones that are actually taking all the footage here.

They're the ones asking me the questions, and they're the ones really deciding how their story is going to be moving.

And it's really exciting to be able to partner with you guys and see what kind of, you know, things you find interesting about the animals.
