Mental Health & Incarceration

3/20/2019 | 20m 1sVideo has Closed Captions

ncIMPACT explores the Stepping Up Initiative, treating mental illnesses of those in jail.

In many counties across North Carolina, jails have more adults with mental illness than psychiatric hospitals. And they tend to stay longer and have a higher rate of recidivism. We look at the impact of the state’s only multi-county effort to address this problem. Generous support for this series is provided by UNC-School of Government and Civic Federal Credit Union.
