Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- He had been resisting calls to prioritize teachers, right?
This story has evolved a lot, Mike.
- Yeah, it's really the next chapter in the Baker Teacher Awards that have been going on since before he was elected.
They've been fighting about all sorts of stuff but Baker, when it comes to vaccinations, he wanted to stick to his original plan, which was to get the oldest and sickest populations, get vaccines to them earlier and then move on to teachers.
And that's because he simply does not believe that teachers need or should all be vaccinated when they return to school.
The CDC also says that teachers don't need to be vaccinated to return to the classroom.
The government have been focused on where the virus is most deadly and actually, the AARP told me last week when I asked that 95% of the deaths from the virus are still people 50 and older and that they are still supporting vaccinating older people before younger ones.
They weren't gonna come out and dis the teachers but groups who are advocating for seniors are still saying we need to stick to that older population, make sure they get all the way done before we move on.
