Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- This, we could talk about economic development.
What did we mean by that?
Because it does include some important proposals, Mike, some of the major issues that might not make it over the goal line, what's inside?
- Right, it's a deliberately broad term, economic development and because this bill is so huge, it has so many different features into it.
Sports betting, which is something that's been legalized at the federal level.
Massachusetts has been waiting a few years now to put it, you know, build this industry, regulate it.
It would establish a whole new industry and really give the state a shot in the arm with new tax revenue from this brand new kind of tax lifeline.
Governor Baker's housing reform, to make it easier for cities and towns to approve new housing developments, new construction, something pretty much everybody agrees on.
Even new Speaker Mariano said that housing construction was gonna be a priority of his but I have a feeling, I think he meant next session and that this particular part of the bill might not get done.
And in this economic development bill, there's also COVID relief for nonprofits and businesses, things like that, that lawmakers have, you know, told their constituents, this is what I got for you in the bill and yet, the bill might not pass.
