Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- How about sports betting, like wagering on pro sports, failed at the last minute, even as it is adopted in a lot of other states around the country.
Is this going to be another big issue in '21?
- It's going to have to be.
Speaker Ron Mariano, the new Speaker of the House, he suggested that that's going to be a priority for him and the House.
It was a priority last session, but it failed to reach compromise with the Senate because the Senate essentially killed it.
What they want to do in the Senate is have it be its own bill.
The house wanted to include it in this massive economic development bill that passed, you know, at not the 11th hour, more like the 14th or 15th hour, at that end of session.
So they're saying, take it slower, do it on its own.
This will mean that companies like Draft Kings will now stand back up to Beacon Hill, you know, and, you know, lobby this again.
They stand to make so much money on this new industry and the taxes that come in will also be quite substantial, so Beacon Hill wants to get this done, but because they didn't get it done last week, it's probably gonna take at least until the spring or summer.
