Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- Joining us is GBH state house reporter, Mike Dean, who's been keeping tabs on the House and Senate and why they let the expiration date come and go.
Good morning, Mike.
- Good morning, Aaron.
- All right, so what happened?
The clock struck midnight this morning and the state of emergency came to an end, right?
- Right, yes, so Massachusetts is officially out of the emergency.
You know, yay, to that.
But a lot of the protections and provisions that were put in place those 14 months ago, that were to protect residents, they were tied to that emergency order, so when that expired, they expired.
So, at the moment, because it is now done no more to-go cocktails.
Some of the insurance cost protections over COVID-19 treatment, those have expired.
That open meeting law requires, now, an in-person quorum for public meetings so a lot of boards and town governments, things like that, can be virtual but still need to have a quorum in present to follow that law that's now, again, back to normal.
So, that's all because the legislature just didn't get a Bill done in time that was going to extend these certain provisions.
They intended to, they didn't get it done in time, the clock struck midnight and here we are.
