But it wasn't military members who were being honored.
It was their children.
80 children participated in Military Kids Day, a program launched by Lebanon.
Republican State Senator Jimmy Higdon, who says these kids deserve recognition.
We have Memorial Day every year to honor our war dead.
Those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
We have Veterans Day every year to honor our veterans.
Today, we have military kids day to honor our military kids and the sacrifices that they make.
They do make sacrifices.
You know, some of them today that had lived in, you know, multiple school districts and gone to multiple schools and even lived in different countries.
All our lives are hard due to the constant moving, the constant having to make new friends, having to get adjusted over and over again.
Our parents leaving like every other year.
I was a military youth myself, so this is my way of giving back to the Army community and really being a mentor to these kids, seeing that I know how it's like to move around.
I know what it's like to be the new kid.
I know what it's like to be in an area that is unfamiliar and being uprooted from place to place.
After we moved to Georgia.
My dad studied to become a war officer.
So when he came here, he had to leave State leave the country for a lot.
And currently he's in Germany, I believe.
He'll be there till the end of March.
We also have, especially right now, the Kentucky National Guard has troops deployed there in the Middle East.
You know, their lives are in danger.
They they deal with that every day.
And so they deal with it.
But they also at home, the kids and the spouses had to deal with it.
Also.
The veteran is one to be thanked.
The service member is one to be thank.
But sometimes they forget that they're also leaving a family behind.
And in that family, you have your spouse, but you also have your children.
And sometimes these kids go long periods of time without seeing their family member, without seeing their mom, without seeing their dad.
And so this day is just an important day to recognize their sacrifice as well as their parents and the fact that they gave up so much in order to live the life that they live.
So it's great that they're getting recognized and it's great that they see like, hey, I'm not just a regular kid whose dad's in the army, whose mom's in the army.
I'm doing my part to and the world sees that.
Our terrific military kids day is in its 11th year.
Among the day's activities, a scavenger hunt, flight simulator practice and a tour of the Capitol.
