I'm your host, Adara Alston.
For this week's show, we go back to the Autumn of 2019 for a classic concert performance from Milkweed.
Led by songwriter Joseph Alston, the group has evolved from a three-piece acoustic act to the dynamic electric band you are about to see tonight.
The set begins with the band's original song, "Taxi Driver".
(upbeat country rock music starts) ♪ My good friend is a taxi driver ♪ ♪ And he drives all over town ♪ ♪ Got himself a big old car ♪ ♪ And he drives it all around ♪ ♪ He goes down town ♪ ♪ He goes up town ♪ ♪ He goes to the east side to pick me up when I'm drunk ♪ ♪ And we all got a part to play everyday ♪ ♪ To pay our way through the gates of heaven ♪ ♪ Buy us some more time ♪ ♪ He used to be a painter in the green hills up north ♪ ♪ Had a good life picking up work ♪ ♪ And on Sundays I'd have off ♪ ♪ I wrote poems on the back of T-shirts ♪ ♪ I wrote rubbish on a bathroom walls ♪ ♪ Library halls ♪ ♪ Through it all I could see ♪ ♪ It would all come back to me ♪ ♪ Shades of gray ♪ ♪ Lives of people lived out everyday ♪ - I see you, Charlie.

It's about the joys and misgivings of life on the road for a New Jersey slash New York musician.

(upbeat music starts) ♪ Well I got a hotel room and a hotel lobby ♪ ♪ Pull-Out sofa and friendly bobby ♪ ♪ Two plastic cups and a tub of ice ♪ ♪ And living on the road sure is nice ♪ ♪ When you get home all you got is a $2 bill ♪ ♪ Pull over Frank, you gotta fill the tank ♪ ♪ You can't get far without raising the bar ♪ ♪ It fills you up and it drains you of all your dreams.
♪ ♪ Sports bar, sports bar, ♪ ♪ Twinkle twinkle little star ♪ ♪ Fire on the side of the New Jersey turnpike ♪ ♪ Well everybody's got a light, ♪ ♪ But not everybody turns it on ♪ ♪ And I just got home but I'm thinking 'bout movin' on ♪ - Ain't that slightly ridiculous?!
