Hi, my name is Pete Hyduke and I am the mayor of Hibbing.
Well, I think it's important that we're up here at the Mine View so you can see how important that industry still is to our region of the Iron Range.
And, we've been mining since, late 1800s.
And we're still going strong here in the 21st century.
Well, the main mission of the Mine View project is basically to tell a story, and we just don't want it to be a view.
We want it to be where you understand the history of how we got where we are.
You understand the geology of what we're mining.
And then it's important that you understand that mining is something that has been a major force in the economy of the United States and our region, and how it has impacted, our state and federal levels.
Well, I think unity in the Iron Range is really important.
And a good example that is our production tax.
In lieu of property tax, the mining companies pay a production tax that production tax is then spread throughout the region for wealth.
There are areas that don't really produce much in, in minerals and tax, but there are others that produce a lot, but it is evenly spread throughout the region so that the success of the Iron Range is one that moves forward together.
I think, to support this region and, and, facilities like the Mine View, it's just important that you become engaged and you become educated on who we are and what we are up in this area of the country.
And if you can give back with that knowledge and your times and talents, it really goes a long way in telling the story of what we are up on the Iron Range.
