Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipMinnesota Free-mo started in about 2004, was just like a handful of guys and we would set up maybe six tables all in a straight line.
And it's grown to what you see here today.
The way Free-mo works is we're not just running trains on track.
Each table is sophisticated.
It has standard ends and standard wiring, and then we have scenery standards.
But what each modeler does is he'll pick a scene that he's interested in modeling, or he can do a freelance scene.
Several of the tables here are actual places that exist and they're modeled using track diagrams and pictures.
Each modeler has his own area of interest.
Some people like doing scenery.
Some people like laying track.
Some people like building the tables.
And some people just like the train itself.
There's a whole world of railroading out there that most people never see.
So to come to our layout and to see all the aspects that a railroad goes through, the yards, the industries, the train depots.
That's really what I like about it.
