(cheering continues) (cheering continues) (gentle music) High High High High I've got mountains Of worries weighing down on me I can't count them They just won't let me be Let me be free Let me be free Let me be free Oh, let me be free (gentle music) Yeah (gentle music) (gentle music continues) Yeah (gentle music continues) (gentle music continues) I've got a cold mind And it's locked without a key And I'm still trying Open up and let it be Let me be free Let me be free Let me be free Oh, let me be free Yeah, let me be free High Let me be free High Let me be free High Oh, let me be free High Yeah (audience cheering) - [Sean] Excited to see the studio.
- [Nathan] Yeah.
- How do you feel about playing on the grand piano?
- Is it grand?
- It's a grand.
(gentle harmonica music) - How're you guys doing?
- [Ken] This is Moontricks man.
- [Sean] Very nice to meet you.
- Come on in.
- [Nathan] Either would work for this song, man.
(gentle piano music) Well, yeah, that'll do.
- Well, I listen to your music,<br/> - [Sean] Awesome.
- It's half digital, half analog - Yeah, hey.
- Yeah.
- [Nathan] That's why we like the sound - It's a hybrid, hybrid, bro.
- 1, 2, 3.
(mellow music) - I grew up in a very small community in Canada and then he moved there at a certain point.
So it's so small that you know everyone in town.
- Every musician.
- Every musician especially.
And there was that winter, I lived there about a year or two.
- Okay, and you lived in my house for a bit.
- And I came and lived at your house.
We have like the Friday night jam.
- People screaming at the top of their lungs from the kitchen.
- Those were the days.
Split through the heart Split through the heart - We both like are pretty experimental with like production and the stuff that we do.
Even just like the nature of our band is experimental, like combining banjo with electronic music.
So there's really no rules in the songwriting or the production.
- And we're both, we're both really open too, which is nice.
- We're both really chill.
Yeah.
Wood wasn't sound - [Ken] When I saw you guys, I'm like, these guys are perfect to come to New Mexico, like - Feels good.
- Yeah.
- Just gotta spend more time down here.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
Just another let down Just another let down And I don't mess around (audience cheering) - So happy to have found our way here.
We've never been to New Mexico, so this has, it's been beautiful.
(audience cheering) Yeah.
(gentle music) (gentle music continues) (guitar music starts) That way Is on my mind Just stay 'Cause you're making me feel fine Got sunshine on my mind (gentle music continues) That way Is on my mind Just stay 'Cause you're making me feel fine Got sunshine on my mind (gentle music) Well, we've been moving We re so damn slow And what you doing We get up and go We go (gentle music) Get up and go (gentle music) Get up and go (harmonica music) Get up and go (gentle music) (gentle music continues) We've got to go now So damn slow We've got to go now Get up and go (gentle music continues) (audience cheering) (gentle music) In the woodstove - This room and the control room are 300 years old.
- [Ken] Wow.
- [Nathan] That's somewhat of a banjo kind of thing, you know?
- Yes, that's right.
- Yeah.
(gentle music) Was cut too damn deep And I can't see I can't see wood for the trees It's never easy - We started out just with like guitar and DJing kind of thing and there was a point where I was like, well, I play harmonica and I make these beats.
It's like, what if I did that together?
And then we started adding like more and more instruments as we went along.
We'll often try something out, like live at the show and just see how, see how it goes.
One time we like brought out the banjo.
and did like a bluegrass and it was like in a club and we're like, either this is good.
We're gonna get thrown off stage or it's gonna be really good.
And you kind of learned the banjo over the course of this project.
- I mean, I was working in a music shop for a summer and that's where I picked that up.
Swinging my axe These cuts are too deep - The music and the playing and all that.
It just felt like connection to nature.
It felt like, it felt like a message of love.
And it could be me just laying that on top of it or- - [Sean] We came from like a very, yeah, very beautiful, supportive community in like a geographical, like - Treasure, yeah.
- Mountains on a giant lake forest.
- That's very inspiring.
Most of the songs have those themes in them and it's about being like liberated and- - Free.
- Free and- - In nature.
- In some beautiful places.
- [Ken] You need that going on, hikes, going into the mountains, connecting with nature.
It slows it down and you just connect.
with yourself and to- - The universe.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
It's never easy (gentle music) (upbeat banjo music) These cabin walls are thin Packrats moving in And cold cuts through my skin Damn, where you been I got a fire lit From the wood I split Hot as an argument I'm still feeling it And oh, I've got fool's gold I can't stand the cold Where'd you go, there's just this bed of coals (upbeat music) Back woods are getting dark Cabin fever starts Did I lose the spark Damn my freezing heart Lay back, give it time Watch those embers die Well fool's gold is all I find What a fool am I And oh, I got fool's gold I can't stand the cold Where'd you go, there's just this bed of coals (upbeat music) - Alright.
Albuquerque, where you at?
(audience cheering) Here we go.
Come on.
