(upbeat music) - Motown Mondays, a first-of-its-kind monthly concert series, brings the timeless sound of Motown to life in Utah.
Here to tell us more is CJ Drisdom CJ, what's going on?
- What's going on?
(CJ and Liz laughing) We said it at the same time.
- Yeah.
- But that's, like, the theme for the next month, right, - the next month?
- That's it.
Yeah, what's going on is Marvin Gaye.
We're bringing him out from L.A., the tribute to Marvin Gaye.
It's gonna be so much fun.
Man, Utah Creative Arts Foundation is throwing this.
It's putting on these events every month.
And so excited, man, and people have been responding very well.
We had Diana Ross & The Supremes tribute.
We actually brought The Supremes out.
That was really cool, the former ladies of The Supremes, and then we had Stevie Wonder, and oh my God.
It's been amazing, so.
- When I saw that the first one was Stevie Wonder, I was like, "Oh my gosh," or the one for March was Stevie Wonder.
I was like, "I missed it."
I love Stevie.
- Oh, he killed it too, yeah.
- What's it like to see the audience really take hold of this and get up and dance and sing from their seats?
- You know, I grew up in Los Angeles, California, so a really cool environment.
We come to Utah, and it's like Utah needs something special, you know?
And then, so to be able to bring something special that Utah can resonate with, you know, we're a little behind on our scene here.
And so we're trying to bring and, you know, put that energy back in.
And it's so cool to see them jumping up and down and screaming.
And I mean, it's amazing.
The energy in there is very impactful, so.
- Something about being in the room with fans who love good music and who kind of are on the same page as, like, this is a celebration.
- Yes, and it's nostalgic, you know?
It's cool.
Like, you know, it's the only shows that my mom and dad and my grandparents show up to, you know, not so much the hip hop shows that we do, but, you know, Motown, it just scratches everybody's itch, you know?
- Absolutely, and I can't wait until, you know, I get to check it out.
I'm excited to check it out and I know- - You better come on.
- I know.
(CJ laughs) I better come on and get my tickets and get there.
If you would like to check out Motown Mondays, all you have to do is go to that website, grandtheatrecompany.com, to get more information about tickets and the dates.
And Motown Mondays happens at 7:30 p.m.
once a month, now through October, and that's at The Grand Theatre.
Thank you so much for watching us.
I'm Liz Adeola, and this is "Contact."
