Murphy to revive debate over abortion insurance mandates

NJ lawmakers were reluctant to include mandatory coverage in recently enacted law

Gov. Phil Murphy will announce new legislation this week that would compel insurance companies to provide coverage for abortions, according to a source familiar with the governor’s plans. Though Murphy signed the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act, the law did not include mandatory insurance coverage provisions, because reluctant lawmakers had stripped those out of the original bill.
