(upbeat music) - A program called My 529 can help everyone save money and has been helping families save for education for more than 20 years.

Bryn Ramjoue is here with more information about Financial Planning Month.

Hi, Bryn.

I'm so glad you're on to talk about this because we all know about the higher cost of higher education and this is a program that families need to know about.

- Yes, it's a very little known tool that anybody can take advantage of.

If you're over 18, you can open an account and then your earnings are untaxed.

So when you go to apply for tech school, trade school, beauty, school, college, university, you've got some money set aside.

- Yeah, and as you were saying, if people just knew about this and started putting a little away every month, it would make their education possible.

- It would make a difference because what you put away can grow, those earnings are not taxed.

It's a great program and very few people know about it.

So my529.org, and we've got all the answers and we can help families start saving for that expensive cost of future education.

- Right.

So whether you're the student yourself or the parents or grandparents, you can help start this.

- It's a great gift for the holidays.

You can put money in somebody else's account instead of buying them a toy.

(both laughing) - And I know it's part of the Utah System of Higher Education?

- It is.

So each state has a 529 plan.

Ours is gold-rated, one of the top in the country.

We are part of the Utah System of Higher Education and it's a great program and we hope more people use it, know about it.

- Yeah, and they just need to go again, to your website.

I want them to keep hearing it, so they'll write it down.

- Yes, because really, it can make a huge difference.

- It can make a huge difference in the cost of education and you can use it for books, tuition, food, room and board, fees, lab fees, all of it.

- Great.
