He went on to receive undergraduate and legal degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and to serve in both World War II and the Korean War. In later years, Taylor led a storied, successful political career. Among many accomplishments, he served as Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives and Lieutenant Governor.
