Do No Harm: Malpractice in America
Clip: Season 3 | 10m 7s
Jeff Greenfield explores how malpractice lawsuits contribute to rising healthcare costs.
Every year, one in 14 doctors will be sued for malpractice; and a survey by the AMA found that more than 60% of doctors over 55 have been sued at least once. Most lawsuits will be dismissed, or resolved in favor of the doctor; but the cost of insuring against such suits can be huge. At the same time, the majority of patients who suffer injury from malpractice, never receive any compensation.
