A new play explores the events around a 1919 killing that led to tragedy and violence.
More than a century after the killing of 17-year-old Eugene Williams at a segregated Lake Michigan beach in the summer of 1919, the tragedy and violence that followed still echo in Chicago. In a new production adapted from Eve Ewing’s collection of poetry about those terrible days, the Steppenwolf for Young Adults explores 1919’s legacy.
