And with the new system comes new regulations for drivers.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the state will transition from a plate to vehicle system to a plate to customer one.
That means drivers will need to hold on to their license plates when selling or trading a vehicle in 2024.
The Cabinet says that's because the new system will link drivers, not vehicles, with license plate numbers and registration tax.
