Report on millions of dollars siphoned off, lax state oversight of Bridgeton home
The operators of South Jersey Extended Care in Bridgeton, Cumberland County “exploited the poor, sick, elderly, people with disabilities, people with addictions, and residents with no family to look after them,” said Acting State Comptroller Kevin Walsh. “They profited on the suffering of people who wanted better care but had no way to get it.”

The operators of South Jersey extended care in Bridgeton, which has consistently been ranked as worst in the state, lined their own pockets with millions of dollars while letting residents suffer and filth with poor medical care, a scheme the comptroller says went unnoticed for years by the state agencies that are supposed to oversee them.
Investigators found that Michael König, who was barred from operating nursing homes in other states for serious violations, was running the home along with his brother in law.
While it's supposed ID owner Mark Weiss was just a store owner.
The men allegedly inflated costs to boost profits for themselves while under delivering critical care for patients.
South Jersey extended care and another home operated by the same individuals in Maple Shade have both been barred from New Jersey's Medicaid programs, which could potentially shut them down.
They exploited the poor, the sick, the elderly, people with disabilities, people with addictions and residents who have no family to look after them.
They profited on the despair of people who wanted better care but had no way to get it.
