Newark's Safe Summer Academy focuses on financial skills

Participants, ages 14 to 40, are being taught a range of skills, including in business.

After George Floyd’s murder last year, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka committed the city to providing more community-based antiviolence programs and addressing the root causes of incarceration for at-risk juveniles and adult. The Safe Summer Academy aims to set participants on a path to success. The 120 participants, ages 14 to 40, are being taught a range of skills, including how to start a business.
