Reminding you to park your phone while you're driving.
It saves lives.
As we welcome you to Coach Willie Canfield in Fairburn for a big region.
Three 5-A battle as the 4-1 Newnan Cougars have come to town to take on the five and zero and second ranked Langston Hughes Panthers.
And good evening, I'm Matt Stewart, joined by former Auburn Tigers All-American NFL first round draft pick in 15 year pro Wayne Gandy and Wayne, I know you played offensive line your entire life, so I know you like a lot of points.
Well, we might get a lot of points tonight in Langston Hughes and Newnan.
We have two of the top high scoring offenses in all of 5-A football.
And it's homecoming out here tonight as well.
A big region game where Newnan is trying to make up some ground on Langston Hughes.
Look for an exciting game here tonight.
Let's start with the Panthers.
They won the state championship in 2022.
They've been to the state finals three of the last four years.
New head coach Andrico Hines was the OC on that 2022 team that set the state scoring record.
They're averaging 46 points per game and led by two great running backs.
Quantavious Wiggins and Carson Baker.
Get the running game going.
Get it going early with this big offensive line.
And these two talented running backs.
When you look at Wiggins 510, 190 senior three star headed to FIU.
Just hard to tackle.
He's a big physical running back.
They call him fat boy.
Look for him running between the tackles tonight and then his partner in the backfield.
Partner in crime Carson Baker 622104.
Star headed to Florida.
Fast explosive.
He's likened to an Adrian Peterson type running back.
He tries to make it a track meet and he has the speed to get it done.
Six touchdowns already on the season.
They're going to run the ball early.
They're going to run it in the middle and they're going to run it late.
He's rated as high as the number 7 running back in the nation.
In the class of 2026.
Now the story with Newnan back in 2021.
They got hit by a tornado there.
Virtually their entire school in their football facilities were wiped out.
Next three years they went ten and 20.
They've come out on the other side of that now, and they've won 13 of their last 17 games.
And their offense is averaging 44 points per game, led by their quarterback Brody Campbell.
And this young man labeled by his head coach to be the best he's ever had at that position.
He can throw the ball around the field.
He has a big arm, talented film junkie.
They go as he throws the ball down the field, and the best thing is his competitive edge that he brings to this offense.
And he's averaging nearly 290 yards passing per game on the defensive side of the ball.
Outstanding linebacking corps led by the four star Rodney Kolton, who's committed to Colorado.
The producer, the leading tackle on this defense feels all the stats sheet.
The four year starter.
He has a big challenge.
Get in the backfield, get the Wiggins, get the Baker and get them on the ground.
So it's the Newnan Cougars and the Langston Hughes Panthers and the tenth all time meeting the man down on the field for us tonight.
Of course, as always is John Nelson.
Nelly, what you got?
Good evening Matt.
Good evening.
Good evening to all of you.
However you are accessing us.
Large device or small, when you're talking to a former offensive coordinator who is now a head coach in Andrico Hines, that offense is always going to be close to his heart.
How close do you ask?
I asked him about the season when they won the championship back in 2022.
It was a prolific offense and I said, okay, how many points did you score?
Was close to 800, right?
He stopped me in mid-sentence.
Goes 792.
That's the kind of memory that he has when it comes to making the offense tick.
Here at Hughes.
And to do it now, it's all about rhythm.
He's having to do it with four new offensive linemen that are averaging in those mid 40s that we're seeing so far with this offense and his background in arena football.
Once again, something to keep an eye on here.
All about the rhythm of that offense.
It's not just drop back throw.
Find your first option.
They're going to run the ball.
They're going to go run pass whatever is available to them.
But that arena football mindset of making sure you can think quickly, react quickly and move on to the next play has come up big with Andrico Hines head coach here at Hughes.
We'll take a tour around the state.
A lot of folks down in South Georgia starting their region play in the region.
One, Matt, how about we light a candle from the Panther's den this time around?
Absolutely.
And we are just minutes away from the opening kickoff.
Please go to our QR code here and pick the winner of tonight's game between the Newnan Cougars and the Langston Hughes Panthers.
So the Cougars won the opening toss in Wayne.
They have elected to receive the ball to begin this game.
Yeah, you don't want to give it to that high powered offense of Langston Hughes.
You want to get the ball and try to take the air out of it.
Keep some drives going and put some points on the board.
Smart move there.
By Chip Walker I expect a very patient offense here tonight.
By Newnan.
When they get the ball trying to drive the ball complete passes and consistently stay on the field and keep this offense in these running backs of Baker and Wiggins on the sideline.
Andrico Hines in his first season as the Panthers head coach, he spent the last two years at Berkmar and his overall record ten, 14-1 He said A very humbling experience after going from that OC position on the 22 state championship team that John Nelson was just talking about.
And by the way, that was 53 points per game.
They averaged.
And they also set the state record, became the only team ever in state history to score at least 35 points in each and every game.
And we had the pleasure of watching that team.
Aaron Nolan and the things they were able to do.
There's so much veteran leadership, seniors playing spectacular that year, and he's close with this team.
When you talk about 46 points a game, he's doing it more with his running game this this year.
Running back by committee with Baker Wiggins, and they splash a little Omari Harris in there.
But they can put some points on the board fast.
And there's Chip Walker one of the best coaches in the state of Georgia.
He won three state championships in 12 seasons at Sandy Creek before he made the move to Newnan.
They were in the process of building back.
They'd gone 9-2 in 2020.
Then that tornado hit in 2021 and he says, I'll never take anything for granted again.
They worked out in a tent.
They didn't have a meeting room.
They couldn't even watch film together as a team.
Yeah, it was part of the New Orleans Saints at the time that Hurricane Katrina hit.
So similar.
Listening to him talk.
But what a persevering team that he has rebounded and built down in Newnan.
Football Fridays in Georgia presented by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety in the opening kickoff is brought to you by Heads Up, Georgia.
Park your phone while you're driving.
It saves lives, and the opening kick from Alex Brock is going to sail into the end zone.
And so Newnan is going to start at the 20 yard line tonight.
And their quarterback, Brody Campbell, 63, 185.
Junior.
As we showed you a few moments ago, been offered by Cincinnati, Troy, Delaware and Georgia State and for his career has passed for 5,117 yards already with 50 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
He has been in that quarterback role with the Cougars since his freshman season.
And now just a junior.
Shawn Grier lines up next to him as the running back.
Right down.
And Grier gets the opening handoff.
And Grier is going to be stopped at the line of scrimmage.
Maybe falls forward to pick up one on the play tackle made by the Mike linebacker Russell Simpson.
Tough sledding up front.
This defensive line.
The thing about it, they play against a running game that's hard to stop in practice.
Nice job right there.
Playing on the other side of the ball by Russell Simpson.
He was actually able to squeeze out a couple of yards on the play.
So second down and eight as the H-back Moore in motion right there.
And the handoff goes to Cameron Davis.
And Davis picks up three more yards up to the 25 Wayne.
Let's take a look at the impact players.
They're brought to you by Breda Pest Management official pest control of high school football.
Cameron Davis.
Just with the physical speed runs between the tackles.
John Matthews to do it all.
Receiver can take the top off of the defense for Langston Hughes on defense, Kijon Brown-Braxton off the edge playing within the system.
He's a sack master and Russell Simpson holding down the middle.
He is an exceptional tackler and playmaker.
Third consecutive run and Cameron Davis will pick up the first down at the 30 1 yard line.
And that's some of that patience.
We expected that out of Newnan today.
Listening coach Walker, they're going to try to eat up some of this clock, win the possession game right there.
Nice hard run between the tackles there by Cameron Davis.
That's exactly what Andrico Hines said from Langston Hughes perspective.
He wants to see his team be more efficient when they're on offense, because he knows teams are going to try to let the air out of the ball and limit their possessions in games.
First pass attempt Campbell rolls and throws, and it's complete up to the 34 yard line and a pickup of three on the play as it goes to the tight end.
Evan Russell.
A little quick rollout here.
Nice job delivering that ball there.
The Russell by Brodie Campbell getting the shoulders square, hitting him in stride.
Great touch.
Pass.
Second down and seven ball.
Sitting on the 35.
And already Newnan has eaten up 2 minutes on this drive.
Move 15 yards.
Davis gets the handoff again and Cameron Davis lunges forward to the 37 yard line.
Now it's going to be third down as we take a look at the starting lineup.
Brought to you by Johnny's New York style pizza.
Your original neighborhood pizzeria with Thompson McCreight Hinton, a three year starter at center Mitchell and Tate up front.
Davis, the running back, Matthews and Britt the wide receivers Russell the tight end and Brian Moore the H-back.
As you can see, a lot of personnel groupings for Newman.
That's what they like to do.
They like to switch it up.
Rarely are they in the same formation with the same personnel.
Yeah, coach Walker says they do not like to line up in the same formation.
Two plays in a row.
So now third down and short and flags going to come out.
False start on the offense.
Five yards still third down.
Tim Smith is our referee tonight.
When you want to take the air out of the ball you got to play perfect.
On offense.
You can't have those kind of penalties.
You're in third and three now with the false start you're back third and eight.
Got to change the grouping.
Bring your receivers.
Open up the field.
Try to get the ball down the field Brody Campbell already 13 touchdowns on the season.
Only three interceptions.
Line to gain is the 41 first, third and long facing the Cougars so far here tonight Campbell pocket now being chased and throws it up for grabs.
And it's going to be caught here at the 42 yard line.
And a great reception and a first down by Jaylen Britt.
Jaylen Britt comes in the game with 40-3 receptions here.
Just arm strength all by Campbell there floating it out.
And what a beautiful layout there by Britt.
To corral that ball and bring it in.
Only 591 65 right there using all of it to extend himself to catch that ball for his quarterback.
Coach Walker called him the ultimate slot receiver.
He's also the point guard on the Cougars basketball team.
It's first and ten.
Handoff goes to Greer, got hit in the backfield and did not knock him down.
And he's able to pick up a couple of yards on the play.
As we take a look at the Johnny's New York style pizza starting lineup.
Your original neighborhood pizzeria for the Panthers on defense.
Brown-Braxton Jones, White and Mapson up front Martin, Simpson and Garris on that second line and in the secondary Davis Perry, Freeman and Hoskins Freeman, returning starter, one of only three on this Panthers defense.
Roll out and throw by Campbell and it's caught.
First down and more.
And a great run down to the 35 yard line by Colton Dodds.
Brody Campbell.
Showing you the athleticism right here.
Why his coach feels like he's the best he's ever had.
Roll out once again squaring the shoulders up.
Beautiful job.
Colton Dodds going up grabbing it at the high point and then just showing you the the moves out in the open field.
And a time-out on the field.
We'll step aside as the Cougars have the ball and move it.
Football Fridays in Georgia is presented by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, reminding you to park your phone while driving.
Saves lives.
Heads up, Georgia.
Senate.
You wouldn't take a call during the big game.
Oh, hey.
What's up man?
You wouldn't be texting while cheering on your team.
Jacket.
And you definitely wouldn't want to watch a video while marching with the band.
So why would you drive a car while distracted driving isn't a game when you lose on the road, it could lead to a crash.
So when you get behind the wheel, put the distractions aside, drive hands free, and save lives.
Heads up Georgia.

Welcome back to Langston Hughes.
And we get to hang out with the guy whose name is attached to the field.
Long time head coach named Willie Cannon.
Time to catch up with our friends from Cigna.
Thank them for the $1,500 donation and time to catch up with a great friend here at GPB.
Coach, thanks for being a great host all season long and a great friend of Football Fridays all year long.
We really appreciate you see what he said man, very few words you want to talk about.
Sounds like a defensive coach.
Matt.
Thanks to our friends from Cigna, the $1,500 donation stays here at Langston Hughes.
Let's finish up the first quarter.
Back upstairs.
Coach cannon was a great coach.
The first coach ever here at Langston Hughes went 60-49 with two region titles in the first ten years of the program.
2009 to 2018.
He's had a couple of good coaches to follow him.
Daniel Boone Williams, who's now the head coach at Northside Warner Robins and now Andrico Hines in his first season.
But right now it's the Cougars offense that's on the move.
First and ten at the Langston Hughes 25 yard line.
That was the Panthers who called that time-out on defense.
Campbell going to swing it out here to Britt.
Britt got three men in front of him going to take a loss back at the 28 yard line.
King Garris the nickel was there to hit him.
Good job of sniffing this out.
Just a little screen out there.
Get it to Britt but just nowhere to run.
Good hustle there.
By Mapson.
The cleanup duty King garrison right there.
That linebacker position to make that play.
Landon Mapson the 61, 215 junior replaced Alonzo Jackson at that defensive end position.
He's now at Peru State.
As you go through that lineup, all these guys that got replaced from last year's team are playing college ball this year.
Second down and 12 Campbell had the pass batted down at the line of scrimmage.
And that was Keegan Braxton who batted that pass down.
And there's a flag down as well.
Braxton.
They move to defensive end this year from the linebacker position.
Not sure what the flag is.
Looks like they're going to pick it up.
The offense.
Penalty is declined.
We'll play third down.
So now it's going to be third down and 12 from the 28.
Now Newnan has one of the best kickers in the state.
This is well within his range right here.
If they get stopped on this down this would be a 45 yard kick.
He was booming close to 50 yards in pregame warmups.
Quint Johnson a weapon.
Also the punter for this team, but had a big arm a big leg.
Excuse me.
And his coach has a lot of confidence in his ability to bring up three points.
First things first.
It's third down and 12.
Ball comes out here to Britt and Britt is going to be tackled at the 24 yard line again.
Garris is there on the play as well as Antoine Martin and it's going to be fourth down.
They'll bring the field goal unit on.
A little fake counter to the left.
Right there.
Throwback pass trying to get Britt in that open field as a slot receiver.
He's one of those guys.
Just great in space making people miss just a long ask right there for him to pick up that first down.
So this is a 40 1 yard attempt.
Noah Mattera is the holder and Kyle Morgan is the snapper.
And Quinton Johnson is six for six on the season, eight for nine in his career.
Ball placed down, kick is up and it is on its way.
It's going to be no good.
Kicking field goals in pregame a lot different than kicking field goals in live action.
And so the Cougars hold the ball for the first 6 minutes and 20s, but come up empty on the scoreboard.
Wayne and the Langston Hughes time-out work in that case right there all the time.
Regrouped and was able to, from that point, get three and out.
The penalty helped them out, but settle this team down was Coach Hines and the defense came up right there.
Very short on that kick for the field goal.
First chance to see Darnell Kelly the quarterback back in the program.
He was a freshman on that 2022 team and then spent the last two years at Peachtree Ridge.
Now back here on the south side, running this Panthers program in the first handoff goes to Wiggins and Wiggins pushes the pile forward.
And gets about 4 yards on the play.
Big offensive line.
We know these two backs get a heavy dose of run.
Both of them have the speed to take it.
The distance Wiggins a little smaller than Baker.
Coach Bray, coach Hines talked about this.
This year, how they've pushed each other to be even better.
Second down.
Kelly's going to keep it and try to get outside.
Smith missed him.
And then a tackle is made in the backfield.
Great job by the corner.
Ben Hutchinson to come up and make the tackle.
And it's going to be third down.
As we take a look at the impact players brought to you by Breda Pest Management official pest control of high school football.
The unicorn at tight end Xavier Tiller, 65, 225 for star, seven receptions for touchdown.
Kelsey Adams the big left tackle, 66, 300 pounds.
And on the other side of the ball.
Josh Joshua, Cornell Newnan.
I mean, Joshua Smith headed to Cornell and Roman Wilson has to have a big game out on the edge.
Romel Wilson.
So third down and they'll call it eight.
It looks like more like six.
The line to gain is the 30 ball in the air.
And it's going to be caught for a first down ball.
Going to Kendrick who gets tackled at the 32 Julian Kendrick with his 11th catch of the season.
Flag down on the field.
We'll check that call.
Yes.
Completed to number 14.
Adding it on 15.
So it looks like it's going to be a personal foul on Newnan.
Personal foul face mask on the defense.
That 15 yards is added to the end of the run.
First down.
So they bring the ball up to the 47 yard line.
And a first and ten for the Panthers.
Carson Baker lined up next to Darnell Kelly.
Baker has rushed for over 2,600 yards in his career, already gets the handoff, shoots through the hole and dives across the 50 down to the 47.
Picks up six on the play.
Nice job here.
Baker finding the hole.
Good vision, offensive line, winning at the point and just running through the tackles.
Baker 62.
210.
Strong physical back with a lot of speed.
Brings up second down and four in a fast moving first quarter.
Baker comes to the near side and the ball is out as he fumbles out of bounds.
Marquise Simmons comes up to make the tackle from his cornerback position.
As we take a look at the starting lineups delivered by Johnny's New York style pizza, your original neighborhood pizzeria.
Adams, who's rated as high as number 5 OT in the country 2027, joined by Welch, Harris, Frazier and Baker on that offensive line.
Wiggins, the starting running back McKinney, Kendrick and Woodall the wide receivers and Tiller, who's rated as high as the number 4 tight end in the country, lines up at tight end.
Handoff goes to Wiggins first down and more for Wiggins.
Quantavious Wiggins going to go to the house.
Touchdown!
Langston Hughes.
Quantavious Wiggins working off of that right side.
Seeing that backside cut back lane here.
Watch the vision a counter play.
Nice block there by Gholston to clear the way.
And then the speed that we talked about with these two backs either back able to take it the distance right there with the vision.
Good blocking up front on the counter.
Play and a big run for that young man.
Wiggins tenth touchdown of the season for Wiggins and the 22nd of his career.
And the p-a-t by Brock is no good.
Pushed it off to the right.
And so these two teams have each had one possession.
Hughes gets a 43 yard touchdown run from Quantavious Wiggins to cap theirs 6-0 Panthers.

Matt Stewart Wayne Gandy Jon Nelson with you.
244 to play in the opening quarter.
Quantavious Wiggins got his war paint on here today.
His Zulu war paint scores a 43 yard touchdown run, capping the touchdown drive.
Six plays, 80 yards.
Took 3 minutes off the clock.
And that is your DBHDD.
And the new red ribbon.
365 curriculum scoring drive.
He's back.
Just need a crease and they can make big plays.
Baker and Wiggins so dangerous with the ball in their hand.
Davis.
Brock tees it up and the kickoff a line drive kick that's going to scoot into the end zone.
And so once again, the Cougars will take over at the 20 yard line.
And you get the feeling here Wayne watching this Langston Hughes team and knowing how this series has gone Newnan cannot miss opportunities to score.
They have to be efficient.
They have to be perfect tonight in their execution up front.
We saw him that last long drive to get down.
They can't have those kind of drives.
They have to punch the ball in.
They have to put the three points each and every drive because as you can see, so explosive is Langston Hughes.
And they got to get a little creative on offense.
Not that they aren't, but with their offensive line being so much smaller than, say, the defensive front for Langston Hughes, they're going to have to do some things differently.
Get the ball out on the edge.
Matthews Britt Dodds has already shown you the ability to go up, make the big catch.. First and ten Campbell goes to the air and nearly intercepted by Garris who jumped the route.
Garris right there.
He was counting the the touchdown already.
He was running to the end zone.
Forgot to push the ball reading the quarterback eyes out of that slot, jumping the route.
It's.
You can see just another quick out on the edge trying to get it there and just not able to bring the ball down as Garris he read the play, that's that frustration right there on his as he grabs his facemask.
And he sees what we see there trying to get to the edge, trying to get to the perimeter.
Handoff goes to Thrash first carry for Thrash here tonight.
Shamon Thrash up to the 25 yard line.
Make it the 24.
Picked up three and a half on the play.
Nice fill in there by Russell Simpson.
No linebacker.
They'll call the defense I mean Griggs have just done a great job manning that middle 582 ten.
That's very stout as a linebacker.
He's playing with a lot of leverage.
Third down and seven.
So already Newnan here in a tight spot needing to pick up this first down.
Campbell steps up to avoid the rush and fires.
Intercepted and then dropped by Antoine Martin.
Right on the spot right there is Martin dropping back into the flat, feeling the play here, doing all the work.
Pressure off the edge by Mapson.
Then he just dropped the interception right there.
Doesn't get any easier than that for Martin.
This young sophomore.
So now it's going to be fourth down the OC for the Cougars is TJ Barton.
And his brother Brooks is the quarterback coach.
You might recognize the name.
Those are the sons of Frank Barton the legendary coach here in the state of Georgia who's now at Christian Heritage up in Dalton.
Fair catch was made at the 30 yard line.
And that's where the Panthers will go back on offense.
With 143 to play here in the first quarter, learning starts at home.

Education.
So a three and out was the last thing that Newnan needed right there.
So now the Panthers are back on offense again for the second time in the quarter.
Going with the hard count, Kelly trying to get the defense to declare trips up to the top right.
Baker gets the handoff and Carson Baker spins out of it and up to the 39 yard line.
That's a nine yard carry on the first snap of this series.
Physical downhill run right here.
Watch as he puts his foot in the ground.
Gets into that alley.
Good job on that right side.
Finishing block there.
Savion Frazier the freshman right guard got a big future.
Coach Hines thinks he's going to have.
He picked up an offer from Kentucky this week as a ninth grader.
They believe he is the next Dontrelle Glover who's now playing for the Georgia Bulldogs.
61, 240 football IQ coach.
He's just too good for JV.
I had to bring him up.
Second down and one.
Kelly hands off this time.
Stuck in the backfield.
That's going to be a TfL for this Cougars defense.
They rally to the ball.
Linebacker Ben Roach was there to stop the play.
As we take a look at the starting lineup.
Brought to you by Johnny's New York style Pizza, your original neighborhood pizzeria.
Willis Ward and George up front, that linebacking corps really good.
Smith Roche Colson and Lawless.
And then in the secondary Hutchinson Gates, Brewer and Simmons are just now getting Gates back from a hamstring injury.
So third down and four.
Ball out on the edge.
It's complete to Kendrick.
That's going to be a first down.
And Kendrick still on his feet.
Finally steps out of bounds close to the 50 with 5 seconds left in the quarter.
Good blocking out on the edge there by his receiver.
Mayes.
Tiller McKinney really cleared the way for him.
Just getting the ball out quick.
Wide receiver screen.
Good look at the block.
Look at the lane right there to be able to pick up that first down.
Great block here by Tiller driving his man to the ground.
Andrico tells him if you don't block, we're not throwing you the ball.
So first and ten ball at the 47 yard line.
Of course, Andrico was a great quarterback himself at Riverdale High School and then a couple of junior colleges, including Georgia military, before finishing up his college career at Middle Tennessee.
And as John pointed out in his open, played a number of years, close to a decade in arena football.
Handoff goes right up the middle.
There it is, shot out of a cannon.
That's going to be another long touchdown run for Quantavious Wiggins.
Wow.
Explosive anywhere on the field.
Wiggins Baker can take it to distance.
Beautiful blocking up front by the offensive line.
No penetration.
Really.
No one to navigate right here.
Good job.
Nice kick out block there by Tiller.
Look at the lane and look at the speed right there outrunning the angles.
Wow.
You can't let Wiggins.
You cannot let him get to the second level.
You cannot.
Touch him.
You haven't touched him by then.
He's gone.
You have to get to him early.
You got to get some penetration or the big play like that will happen in a matter of seconds.
P-a-t by Brock.
And it's 13 to nothing.
Quantavious Wiggins in the first quarter.
Wane 43 yards and 53 yard touchdown runs.
Impressive.
Man.
First 12 minutes belong to Langston Hughes.
And that man Quantavious Wiggins.
They call him fat boy.
Nothing fat about him.

Football Fridays in Georgia presented by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, reminding you, heads up, Georgia.
Park your phone while you're driving.
It saves lives.
Matt Stewart Wayne Gandy Jon Nelson back with you on the south side in Fairburn, Georgia.
What a first quarter for Quantavious Wiggins.
He's already had a whole game and we just played 12 minutes, four carries, 70 yards, two touchdowns.
That's actually the drive.
That's pardon me.
That's the DBHDD Rd.
And the red ribbon 365 curriculum scoring drive four plays.
Another four play drive for Hughes.
And Wiggins now actually has three carries and 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Very efficient right there.
Very explosive.
And Newnan has an issue that they have to fix very fast to keep themselves in this game.
Nonreturnable kick by Alex Brock.
And so ball comes out to the 20 yard line.
Cougars need to be able to sustain a drive here.
Just kind of slow things down a little bit.
Let their defense catch a breath.
Can't get behind the sticks.
They have to play perfectly offensively.
And we saw it in that first drive as they were going, Coach Hines called a time-out to kind of slow up the pace on him.
And since then it's been all Langston Hughes defensively.
Yeah, they nearly intercepted two passes on the last series on offense for Newnan.
Campbell to the air fires off the hands of a defender out there.
And that was Antoine Martin nearly had his second interception of the game.
Or what would have been he's missed his first one too.
You got to get Antoine on the gun.
The ball machine right here.
Another one going a little high on that one right there for the 59 sophomore.
But once again doing a good job dropping back into that soft zone cutting off that slant route that pass right there.
Another tipped ball by Martin.
Yeah.
He is the younger brother of former Panther star running back Antonio Martin, who's now a junior running back at Kansas State.
Campbell comes this way this time, throws it behind his receiver at the 30 yard line.
Looking for Matthews that time.
And it's going to be third down.
Here's the down and distance.
Can you hold up up front with the Brown-Braxton Mapson off the edge.
The first two plays get a little feel that maybe Newnan is feeling a little pressure and feel like they got to start moving the ball through the air.
Got away from the run game.
Yeah, it looks like that pressure from Langston Hughes is speeding them up too in their passing game.
So now it's third down.
That's Britt in motion behind the line.
Heavy rush comes at Campbell and he lobs the ball over the head of Greer.
And it's going to be fourth down a three and out.
Nice set up right here.
Just couldn't get the ball to Greer.
Looks like a Langston Hughes player.
Might have tipped that ball and threw it off his trajectory right here as they're rushing.
Oh no just off pass trying to lob it up.
Couldn't find Sean Greer.
Just got to put a little more touch on the ball by Brody Campbell to find him.
So Johnson in there to punt.
He's standing at his five yard line.
Line drive kick that's going to hit in front of McKinney and take a big bounce for Newnan and keep rolling.
And finally down at the 22.
So a break there for the Cougars.
So Langston Hughes will go back on offense at their own 22 yard line.
Jamarion McKinney, you want to go get that ball right there?
He had plenty of time.
It was kicked into the middle of the field to go feel that ball and save.
About 15 or 17 yards for your offense.
Here we go.
The run game of the Panthers.
Let's see how the Cougars play it this time.
These linebackers are going to sit back.
We're going to start seeing some run blitz to try to slow down.
Wiggins and Baker.
So first and ten for the Panthers.
They've already rushed for 117 yards in this game.
The bulk of that coming from Quantavious Wiggins who's had touchdown runs of 43 and 53 yards here in the early going.
Made Darnell Kelly job easy so far tonight.
Just turn around and hand the ball off.
Flag down on the field.
Let's check in with John Nelson.
Five-Yard penalty remains.
First down.
Wayne to your point the Newnan defensive coaches were talking to their front line.
And they want them to be more aggressive in chasing after the running game and going around those big bodies on the Langston Hughes offensive line.
And also take better angles when they're trying to tackle a very difficult running back in.
Q so first and 15, Kelly dumps it off here.
Complete up to the 32 yard line on the catch and run by Carson Baker.
Nice screen getting out on the edge.
Still using the backs this time.
Good timing.
Soft pass there by Kelly.
Look at the ability of Baker to make him miss right there in the open field.
So confident in his ability.
His speed is Baker.
Said everybody's coming to see the back, so let's give everybody what they came to see.
To special backs for star and a three star.
He knows he has some weapons back there.
Handoff goes to Baker Baker up to the 40 yard line.
And you brought it up already.
When Andrico got here during the summer, he pitted Carson Baker and Quantavious Wiggins against each other in all of their drills.
Wanted them to compete against each other.
And at first, they didn't want to do that because they're good friends.
But he did that not only for the running backs, but also for the entire team.
He also wanted them to know, like when you go to the next level, that's how the room is going to be.
Everybody's going to be trying.
It's only one football and you got to compete to try to get it.
Baker man, he's got such great vision.
That's a nice run up to the 48 yard line.
Great vision and balance the footwork out in the open field here.
As you can see able to navigate the bodies.
Look at the vision the footwork to get back inside for another four or five yards.
Falling forward.
Goes to the sideline which is no breather for the defense because the guy that's already scored a touchdown runs of 43 and 53 yards.
Now comes in first and ten Quantavious Wiggins back in there, committed to Florida International which is down in Miami.
And Wiggins crosses midfield down to the 46.5 flag down.
Looks like in that area of holding white hats.
Feeling like one of the linemen held on up there.
Big offensive line as we talked about.
Adams 300.
Welch 270 Harris 325.
The young freshman Frazier 240 and then Zavion Baker over there at right tackle at 3:15.
Offense.
Personal foul, illegal helmet contact on the defense.
Those penalties are offset and will replay first down.
So the ball will stay where it is first and ten at the 49.
Langston Hughes lost their entire offensive line except for Jermaine Harris, who moved from guard to center.
Watch those big bookend tackles Danny Glover, who's now at Georgia, and Tavares, who's now at Florida.
And another big run here for Langston Hughes down inside the 45.
Great job finishing the block.
Kelsey Adams finishing the block 15 yards down the field.
Just driving this defensive front back.
The physicality, the O line and the confidence and speed of these running backs.
It's just so tough when you give up 7-8 yards rushing on first down, stop an offense.
And linebacker Josiah Smith for the Cougars is hurt on the play and will step aside as they tend to him.

Slash.
Matt Stewart.
Wayne Gandy.
Jon Nelson with U. Opening two plus minutes of this second quarter.
It's been all Langston Hughes so far.
13-0 lead as they held Josiah Smith to the sideline.
They're fine linebacker who's committed to Cornell.
So coming out of that time-out, it's going to be second down and three from the 44.
Kelly under center going to play action and spin and throw the ball to Tiller.
Xavier Tiller down to the 30 yard line.
Great play action.
Fake defense linebackers safeties have to pay attention the way they've been able to run the ball.
This play is built off of that.
Being able to establish the run.
And now you can run the play action.
The safeties.
The linebackers are having to be aggressive to try to keep the backs under control.
And now you get it to your big tight end.
The four star headed to FSU.
One of those hybrid kind of tweeners big receiver playing tight end.
First and ten.
Kelly sprint out to the left and now he's going to run it.
And Darnell Kelly going to reach the 24 yard line.
Six yard pickup.
On the play.
Smart play there by Kelly.
Didn't feel comfortable with that.
First read.
Pressured pushing him out the pocket doesn't run much.
Only 25 carries coming into this game.
Very heady smart quarterback that can make plays with his feet.
Doesn't run, doesn't run much here.
But when he was at Peachtree Ridge, he ran the ball quite a bit.
Had 852 yards rushing in his two seasons with the Lions.
Second down and four.
And he's committed to Colorado State.
Looks like something.. Someone had a brace and they kind of tossed it off to the side.
So the official blows the play dead so they can get the brace off the field.
Denim Welch right there.
The big left guard wanted to stay in the game.
Just tosses his leg brace on to the field.
He wasn't leaving the field.
Put a brace on.
Second down and four.
Kelly swings it out here, complete to Kendrick.
Kendrick going to shoot down to the 15 yard line.
They're going to get a holding Xavier Tiller.
Losing the block.
Feeling like the play was a little late there.
The ball on the screen to Julian Kendrick.
Andrico Hines has a history with this coach.
Walker family.
Right there.
Tiller just grabbing the jersey.
Kari North.
Enrico was a senior quarterback at Riverdale back in 1998, and they got to the state semifinals.
At that time, they were playing the semifinals at the Georgia Dome.
The Raiders were 13-0 and got beat by Peach County Chip Walker Daddy Rodney, who's at home watching the game tonight, was the coach for Peach County.
So he said he had revenge on his mind.
He was joking.
Of course he had revenge on his mind here tonight as he was going up against Chip Walker and Newnan.
Taking a lot of time to get the ball in, get the play call.
Ball goes to Baker, got hit in the backfield.
Nice play by Colton.
The dropping for a rare TfL.
Big pressure.
Emmanuel Ward the defensive tackle in the backfield 53.
Here play.
Taking a long time to get in.
Finally getting some upfield pressure 53.
And then with the cleanup duty right there is Rodney Colton four star hit at the Colorado.
Well built linebacker.
Oh yeah.. He's on the field.
He looks just like you want a middle linebacker to be built up.
612 20 committed to Colorado over 33 other offers, including Florida State and Ole Miss.
It's third down now.
Approaching seven minute mark here in the second quarter.
And the Panthers have a good field goal kicker too.
So they're in field goal range right here.
Kelly throws to the sideline.
We'll see if they're going to try out their field goal kicker.
That's an incompletion over there.
We'll see if they bring Brock out on the field.
Looks like they're bringing in extra now.
They're bringing in Brock.
So Alex Brock is going to get a chance right here.
Probably going to be about a 44 yard kick.
Nice job there by the Cougars defense.
Staying at home being disciplined, not coming off of those routes.
Just nowhere to go with the ball.
Langston Hughes in that drive kind of got away from the run game a little.
Started trying to get the screen out on the edge and got away from Baker and Wiggins.
This is going to be a 43 yard kick for Brock.
He's two for two on the season with a long of 40.
So this is about the edge of his range, which is roughly 45.
Ball placed down.
He had to wait on it and the kick is going to be no good.
He had to wait on it for a moment, a little hesitation.
And the ball goes over on downs here.
On the missed field goal and no points on the board for the Cougars.
Right here.
Ball low snap.
Trying to corral it there and bring it in as Dale Perry.
Just not able to keep the snap hold kick has to be in rhythm either.
Part of that is off.
You can look for disaster in that moment.
And right there just missing a chance of three.
Yeah.
So Brock had to wait on that.
Because the ball had to be picked back up and placed upright for him to kick it through his timing off.
So the score remains 13.
Nothing.
Campbell back to the air.
Going deep, airing out for Matthews flag out Matthews makes the catch anyway.
At the 38 yard line, the three star wide receiver John Matthews, who's going to be a big time wide receiver, made the catch.
Let's check the penalty.
Call.
And grow action out on Jakhari Freeman right there beating him.
Excuse me on Jalen Hoskins the corner, getting a step behind.
Beautiful pass.
Great concentration as the safety goes to tackle him to corral that ball by Matthews.
So the catch will stand in it's first and ten for the Cougars at the 38.
Right there, showing you the arms.
Grant Campbell getting the ball out on the edge.
Great route there by John Matthews on that stutter.
And go.
Britt goes in motion behind the line Campbell heavy rush stands in there.
Lobs it across the middle.
Incomplete going back for Dodds this time.
Colton Dodds turns around, looks for a flag.
Doesn't get one.
This Cougar offense is getting a little more aggressive trying to get big chunk plays.
Explosive plays down the field.
That time throwing into double coverage, trying to get the ball to dodge.
Just know where to fit that ball in.
They've pretty much abandoned the run at this point.
Six carries, 19 yards on the ground after falling behind by a couple of touchdowns.
Trying to keep pace, what they feel is explosive offense.
They're trying to get some big plays themselves.
Campbell quickly goes out there to Britt.
They're trying to set up a screen out there and Brit's going to get dropped for a loss.
Back at the 39 yard line.
And that was Garris King Garris who plays that dog position which is a hybrid nickel strong safety.
And it's going to be third down and long.
Doesn't get any better than this.
King Harris open field tackle on Britt.
The slot receiver.
Good job by him, young man.
Senior 611 85.
Tough assignment.
Find yourself matched up with a lot of different people when you play that dog position.
So third down and 12.
Got to get some yards here.
If not get the first down.
Get yourself in field goal range right here.
And a time-out is going to be called.
Time-out called by Newnan with 5-34 On the second quarter clock.
As we take a look at the Newnan Cougars resume.
They've been playing football a long time in the city of Newnan three time state champions are three time state runner ups.
I should say they've never won a state championship.
Their last runner up coming way back in 1981 under Max bass, the legendary coach.
But they've gone 13-4 the last 17 games after they went 10-20 Following that devastating tornado that hit the town in the high school, ten region titles, their last coming in 2009.
599 all time wins.
Which, if they could get the win tonight, would be number 600 in program history.
And it's a long program history.
This is team 120, the 120th season of football.
Starting back in 1907.
Do you realize that means they started playing football in Newnan before there was ever such a thing as the Titanic?
Titanic?
I think the car might have just been invented.
It was.
No one had cars.
They had cars.
You didn't have a phone or anything.
That was a decade before World War I. It's a long time.
And Coach Walker, he he made note that he knew his 600th victory for the program could come on this game tonight on TV.
Yeah.
Coach Walker says, look, Newnan is kind of like in a time warp when it comes to high school football.
Good thing there.
Third down, Campbell steps into the throw, goes to Matthews and tipped away at the last second.
That was a touchdown waiting to happen and got broken up by Jalen Hoskins.
Jalen Hoskins just keeping himself alive.
What a big arm right here.
By Brodie Campbell John Matthews doing a good job.
It's just late.
As soon as Hoskins saw Matthews turn and look, he turned around as well.
And just getting that fingertip on that ball to knock it down.
Great recovery by that young man right there.
So fourth down and they will keep the offense on the field for this fourth down.
And 12.
Now they're going to run the punt unit on here.
Punt safe for Langston Hughes in this situation.
Quint Johnson going to aim for the corner.
Try to drop it inside the ten.
Actually it hits at the one and checks up.
Did that go into the end zone?
I think they're going to rule it down at the one aren't they?
I haven't seen the touchback sign yet.
Coverage man hit the ball from the end zone.
Now it looks like he was he was in the end zone when he patted the ball back into the field.
Yeah.
It's kind of like you can't be in the end zone.
Or it's kind of like being out of bounds.
So the ball is going to come out to the 20 yard line for the Panthers.
So we talked about Newnan playing football for 120 years.
Well they've only been playing for 17 seasons.
But 2022 state champs finals three of the last four years.
The 2022 team set the all time state scoring record five region titles and three in the last four years.
Not only one of the best teams in the state since 2021, but one of the best teams in the country since 2021.
That's if they get back to the run game here and got away from it in that last drive.
There's Wiggins again.
They've had no answer for Quantavious Wiggins.
Might he go again?
My goodness.
Quantavious Wiggins in a foot race turns around.
Another long touchdown run for Quantavious Wiggins.
Unbelievable.
Play.
Before I could get the words out of my mouth.
Will they get back to the run game?
Mr.
Wiggins is fresh and recharged and explosive.
Great find, great body control, and I think they're going to get him for maybe a celebration that they take the touchdown off the board right here at the end.
Watch this play right here.
Great blocking up front.
The vision the bounce to the outside.
And then he's already shown us in a foot race.
You might want to put a bet on him right here in the open field here.
Looking to make sure nobody's able to bring him down.
I guess maybe right there as he's trying to make sure the defender win the maybe pick his feet up.
They said that he going to put the ball on the five.
They moved it down to the three.
Now.
But I think I guess the personal unsportsmanlike conduct right there at the end maybe looking back.
I didn't see anything that warranted I don't know how looking back at the defender to see if he's closing on you and going to tackle you, how that's a penalty.
But maybe something was set.
I don't know.
Yeah.
They're going for two right here.
The touchdown counted and the two point conversion is no good.
So it is 19 to nothing.
Quantavious Wiggins with another long touchdown run.
This one goes for 80 yards.
Unbelievable.
What a night Q Wiggins is having.

Georgia's EMC is so much more than electricity.
Breda Pest Management works to protect the inside and outside of your home from pests.
Breda.
They handle bugs and critters.
They went for two.
Welcome back to Langston Hughes.
There are coaches wearing 305 golf shirts with Panther heads on them.
I think they're here to see somebody who's had a really good first half, 504 left in the first 20 to the good for Langston Hughes coming up at the halftime show, we catch up with all of our friends.
It's our you Save It feature.
Governor's Office of Highway Safety and Matt maybe you can help us out from the booth and point rather vociferously toward the 50 and go make that kid an offer coming up in just a bit.
Absolutely.
I'll do that at halftime.
I'll help you out.
So four carries, 181 yards for Quantavious Wiggins and the 305 and the Panthers.
That's the Florida International Golden Panthers in the 305 area code down in Miami.
What a performance by him tonight.
He's already had a game and we haven't even finished.
We've only been playing for 17 minutes.
He's already had a full game statistically.
This time the kick is going to be returnable from the eight yard line.
They're going to give the ball to Jackson and Jackson brings it up to the 36 Christopher Jackson on the return.
With a little reverse here.
Trying to change it up.
Get a big play.
We've seen this offense try to go vertical of the Cougars has him a little success there.
Brody Campbell to John Matthews and now in this position where you see your defense is struggling right now to be able to stop the run and the big play.
You're going to have to start staying in that same mind frame, staying aggressive, trying to get big chunk plays.
So first and ten ball at the 36 yard line.
Britt in motion.
And the handoff goes to Thrash.
And Thrash picks up three at the 39 yard line.
Garrison on that tackle again for the Panthers.
King Garris making plays here tonight.
Drop the easy interception.
Made big tackles out in the open field this time getting down in the box and mixing it up.
Already.
Four total tackles for Garris this evening.
Second down.
Ball to the outside.
Back to back runs is Kameron Davis runs up to the 40, but now it's going to be third down.
Good job of bouncing the ball out to the edge.
Waylon Tate Jayson Mitchell on that right side.
Third and five.
And this is where this Langston Hughes defensive front has come with a little pressure trying to get Brody Campbell off his spot.
This will be the seventh third down conversion opportunity for Newnan.
They're two for six so far.
Cameron Brown and he's not going to get the first down.
He's going to be a yard short at the 45.
Do you keep the offense out there.
Interesting call.
You imagine they ran the ball because they felt like they were going to go for it.
In this situation.
On fourth.
Down.
Fourth and one.
And they do go for it.
Brown gets the handoff.
He's going to be dropped in the backfield.
And that is going to be a TfL.
And the ball is going to go over on downs as the Panthers defense.
Kijon Brown-Braxton comes up with a big hit.
Huge penetration in the middle of the line.
The play just never got started there.
Anthony Jones 51.
Watch 51 coming to your screen right there.
The big fellow, him and Brown-Braxton making that play, playing on Newnan side of the ball.
So the Panthers offense goes back out there first and ten from the 44.
Not much has gone right for coach Chip Walker team here tonight.
The best thing that could happen for him is for Wiggins to take the rest of the night off.
Baker going to get hit back there and they make the tackle in the backfield, get a TfL Roche is there and so is Josiah Smith, who's back in there to getting shaken up?
Looks like he's shaken up again a little.
Bit.
Number 11.
Nice job there by Josiah.
See a good wrestler plays with leverage.
Tough guy.
Looks like he's going to try to make it and play through pain.
Second down.
Low snap Kelly gets down there and gets it.
Ball is caught.
Nearly intercepted but caught instead goes to Baker.
And that's going to be another first down for the Panthers.
Risky throw here by Darnell Kelly here Tamarcus Mitchell breaking on the ball.
Great concentration by Baker showing you the ability to catch the ball out of the pocket.
Very close there to a pick six there for Tamarcus Mitchell.
Under 2.5 to play in the half.
Quick pass comes out here on the edge to Woodall.
Woodall makes a man miss and Woodall down the sideline.
And finally out of bounds.
Let's see where they're going to spot him.
They're going to spot him out at the six.
But there is a flag.
Out.
Nice little catch and run by Brandon Woodall.
The senior wide receiver.
It looks like someone blocked Corey North off of the field onto the track.
And you can see the white hat talking to Langston Hughes sideline.
We've seen a number of those kind of Michael Oher type blocks like the movie Blind Side.
You'll all remember that if you saw the movie what I'm talking about , his aggressive blocking.
Trying to wear him down, finishing block, playing for the to the whistle.
Once you're out of bounds, you do have to stop here.
Just a quick screen right here.
You can see the block right there as he drives him off the field.
Chase Colson the tight end.
He's just pushing him all the way back to the track.
And you do have to stop blocking once you get off the field.
Once you get to the running track, you've blocked him far enough.
You have to stop.
That's a good indicator to disengage on the block.
That wipes out a big play.
It's I mean, I know the everybody's cheering for him.
To big block and everything, but it wipes out a play down to the six yard line.
The.
And you'll remember in the movie they threw a flag on the character playing Michael Oher.
And they said he.
What was the penalty he blocking too.
Hard.
Just Langston Hughes tight end o line.
These guys are just doing a great job finishing blocks right there.
Just being a little too eager as Colson.
But that coach Hines his mind is what he came in this game to do.
He doesn't want the penalty, but the kind of attitude he definitely is trying to get his team to have that kind of attitude.
So applaud the effort, but not happy about the penalty.
First down ball back at the 46.
Now handoff goes to Baker.
Carson Baker through the hole and Baker down to the 29 yard line.
Let's check in with John Nelson.
Yeah man.
After that penalty that backed him up to the 46 yard line, coach Hines was talking rather loudly to his offensive line and the offensive unit, reminding them, don't be selfish for the penalty like that, because that goes against what he's trying to teach them with the one whose mentality everyone working together toward a common goal and penalties don't do that.
Here comes the other way.
Ball batted up into the air by Colton and intercepted by Roche.
So Rodney Colton got a piece of that, and then Roche was able to pluck it out of the air.
But there is a flag down on the field.
Let's check the penalty call.
I think we're going to get a personal foul.
Looks like a chop block.
Someone went to chop Darnell Kelly as he.
Recover out.
Nice job there.
By Ben Roche here.
Just a little tip.
Trying to get a quick screen.
Ball is in the air.
Nice job right there with the interception.
Gentlemen.
After the interception, personal foul, blind side block on the White team.
15 yard penalty from the spot of the foul.
They keep the ball first down.
You could see someone go out the Darnell Kelly as he tried to cover.
Up.
That play.
So any time there's a play like that, the defense is going to take that opportunity to get a shot on the quarterback if they can.
And this time it cost him 15 yards, cost them great field position.
So instead of the ball being at the 45 yard line with a minute and 22 left in the half, it's going to be way back at the 16.
So instead of being 40 or 55 yards away from the end zone, now you're 84 yards away from.
The end.
Change of possession is a very dangerous time in the game a lot because as an offensive guy, you don't really know where everybody is.
And guys decide, especially defensively, they're going to take a pot shot at you and catch you from a blind side.
Good job right there by the refereeing crew officiating crew for calling that.
So first and ten as the Cougars go back on offense at the 16.
Campbell gets it out of there complete in traffic to Dodds up to the 27 yard line.
Garris makes the tackle, but that's going to be enough for a first down.
Play for some tempo.
We know Matthews over the top is something that Brody Campbell likes.
Cougar Cougars.
To have all two time-outs remaining.
So Matthews top of your screen.
Britt at the bottom trying to find that one on one matchup and go vertical.
Campbell Pocket is clean, throws it deep and incomplete.
Going for Matthews and there's going to be a penalty here on Langston Hughes DPI.
The quarterback there Clint Davis on the coverage.
Looks like he got tangled up with Matthews downfield.
Here good pass protection.
Trying to lay it out for his big receiver and just getting there a little early.
Getting tied up is Clint Davis.
You can see the size difference that Matthews has on these two corners.
So a 15 yard penalty and that brings the ball out to the 43 about where they were when they got the interception.
A couple of plays.
Ago.
So first and ten with 50-3 seconds left in the half.
John Matthews bottom of your screen down here.
Matt Stewart with Jalen Hoskins.
Britt goes in motion behind the line.
Campbell being chased and throwing into traffic trying to get the ball to Dodds.
That was a dangerous throw right there.
It's going to be second down.
Two receivers in the same area.
Dodds and Matthews.
Good break on the ball there by Hoskins.
Down to 47.6 seconds.
And for Newnan right now you just want to if nothing else get in field goal range.
Get something on the board before halftime.
Kind of break this momentum that Langston Hughes has.
And also remember Langston Hughes gets the ball to start the second half.
Time-out is going to be called.
So Newnan burns the time-out 47.6 seconds left here in the first half 243 yards rushing for Langston Hughes in this first half.
Unbelievable number of course.
Quantavious Wiggins has won 80-1 of that with touchdown runs of 43, 53 and 80 yards.
Baker has joined him.
He's been a tackle away from making some of them a foot race himself.
But we knew as a combination that's what they were going to lean on here tonight was Baker and Wiggins.
That's how this offense is built.
The ability to run the ball and play action behind that Darnell Kelly doing a good job of managing the game and the field.
Well, he's already recorded the seventh 100 yard rushing game of his career.
And we're not yet at halftime.
He's averaging 45.3 yards per carry.
Who's ever heard of.
That?
He's maximizing his potential every run.
Yes, he has.
Campbell to the air and dropped by Dodd.
Dodds grabs his helmet.
Knew he should have had that one.
Now it's going to be third down.
Great read by Brody Campbell right there.
Working in the slot trying to get the ball to Dodds right here.
He pre-snap read good ball quick out of his hand.
He just dropped the ball right there.
And you can see frustration by.
Him.
So third down and ten ball sitting at the 43.
Didn't burn a lot of time on that play.
Down to 42.4 to play here in the half.
It's homecoming here at Langston Hughes.
So I know the home side here.
They're anxious to get out there and get those festivities and ceremonies underway.
Britt in motion again behind the line.
Handoff goes to Grier and Grier slashes through the line and Grier is across midfield, down to the 48.
Nice play call right there, but TJ Barden on the draw.
One of the few times we've seen an open lane for these backs to run in right there.
Shawn Grier making the most and picking up that first down.
Yeah they spotted it an extra yard forward at the 47.
So clock stopped at 30:02 0.8.
Now the clock is running again.
Campbell going to go back to the air.
And he's hit quarterback.
Sack back at the 44 yard line.
Big Jaylen White.
At the 44 yard line.
Big sack by Jalen White.
The junior nose tackle.
Initial good protection right here.
Just nowhere to go with the ball.
As you can see.
Then the dam breaks right there.
And big Jaylen White 61 270.
Junior does all the dirty work.
Coach Hines described him as a Dennis Rodman type.
He's okay setting the pick for everybody else to score.
Nice job right there.
Getting off the block and getting that sack.
Right there.
Dennis Rodman got the slam dunk.
Nelly.
What you.
Got.
I'm looking at the clock.
I think they probably should add another 4 seconds.
I think that the play ended at about 21.
And that was when the whistle happened.
Clock operator took it down to 14.
Where at 17 right now I guess it's a happy medium.
All right.
Time to test the Wayback Machine and Matt Stewart.
Let's let's test your memory here a little bit with that Riverdale team in 98.
Do you remember the running back that was the key to that offense that Andrico Hines handed off to a lot?
Was it Bobby Rainey?
Michael Leslie.
Michael Leslie.
And Jonathan Culver was one of the linemen that was getting a lot of recognition.
You remember the kicker?
I don't.
Tonya Butler.
Okay, there you go.
I remember Tonya Butler ball in the air.
It's complete Pitman with the catch and run then gets wiped out at the 48 yard line.
And the clock is still running.
Let's see if anybody burns a time-out here.
They do not halftime.
The Cougars.
Do not get off another play after Pitman made that catch.
And it's halftime here at Willie Cannon Field.
And a 19 to nothing lead on the strength of three long touchdown runs by Quantavious Wiggins.
Wiggins in this offensive line.
His running mate Baker.
This has been a problem for the Cougars and they never had an answer in that first half.
Tonight's coach's interview is brought to you by Johnny's New York style pizza.
Your original neighborhood pizzeria.
John.
Thank you Mike.
Thank you Matt.
Let's talk about the slice of the first half here with the coach.
I was telling him that we were talking about that 98 team.
He's like, well, did you talk about so-and-so and so-and-so and so-and-so?
I said, we hadn't gotten there yet.
Talked about most of it.
Let's talk about your first half.
They were moving the football Newnan was you called that early time-out that seemed to have flipped the switch a little bit.
Yeah.
Just wanted to settle us down.
I didn't think we were communicating on the back end.
Kind of got confused with a couple calls.
So just kind of wanted the guys, coaches, everybody just settle down a little bit.
It's a TV game.
So I just kind of think kind of settle them down, talk to them a little bit.
And I think things kind of got a little better.
And then on the offensive line, they were making the holes.
Q Q was, I think 35.3 a carry in the first half.
You're really making some holes there.
Oh, well, he's a great back.
You know, he had good backs.
The line just do just get in the way a little bit in the back so make you right.
So I'm just fortunate to be having two good backs.
And one of them's on tonight.
So I'm just trying to keep giving them the ball.
All right.
Thanks for your time.
Thanks for your time.
See you in a bit.
That is the early run from Andrico Hines.
They are 19 to the good leading Newnan in a big region battle halftime show coming up around the corner here on the great GPB stick and stay.
We'll be right back.
Let me know if I can help you with anything.
Just looking.
I only buy local and sustainable so.
Oh well, that shirt's not local.
You should be wearing cotton.
George is a major supplier of cotton worldwide, so if you'd like to buy local to support Georgia, buying cotton is a great place to start.
It's renewable and sustainable, naturally.
Thanks.
That's a polyester fiber made of oil, by the way.
Where's your dressing room?

You wouldn't take a call during the big game.
Oh hey what's up man.
And welcome back to Langston Hughes.
We are at the break and the home team 19 points to the good over Newnan 19.
Nothing here at the half and it's been a great experience for us once again to come back to Langston Hughes and see a big region game early on here at the Panther Den.
Let's take you around the state a little bit.
Some of the matchups, region play kicking off in region one and 4-A, 5-A and 6-A.
So let's take a look and show you some of the early returns as to what we know going up around the state of Georgia, we're going to spend a lot of time in the region, ones with the scoreboard.
You look at Valdosta and Camden, Valdosta, they had to travel to Kingsland, and it's been early returns.
Good for the Wildcats, 286.
That one in the second quarter.
Colquitt leading Lowndes.
That one is also a second quarter score.
Lee County, Thomas County Central you figured this one was going to be back and forth.
It was 7-0 It was 77.
Now it's 147.
Thomas County Central leading in that one.
Richmond Hill back in region one.
6-A leading Tift early on second quarter Benedictine.
And where we can update that one, that one is at the break.
Where is leading Benedictine by the score of 21-16 going to page two, Holy Innocents leading Lovett this game, probably that game will probably be done halfway through our third quarter.
The way those teams operate very, very quickly.
Also, Fannin County, with a lead at Gordon Central.
Second quarter, Appling County and Fitzgerald Tucker Pruitt.
Nothing like leaving your old job with your new job and having to face your old job right now.
That 176 Fitzgerald the old job.
West Tankersley, the new coach leading Tucker Pruitt and Appling County second quarter Callaway shutting out Pike County Hapeville charter and Carver Atlanta.
That is our second screen experience with Cody Chaffins on the call.
That one started about 19 minutes ago, so they're probably late first quarter.
And once again, that one is just underway.
Time to catch up with our friends from Cigna.
As always, our signature moment, important messages coming up every single week.
This one about opioids.
Give it a listen from our friends from Cigna.
Opioid abuse is on the rise here in Georgia, and overdoses have spiked since 2020.
Kirk Erickson, Cigna Healthcare general manager for Georgia and Alabama, is here with tips for parents on how to protect their kids.
Kirk, this topic is so important.
How serious is this crisis?
It's very serious and it often starts very innocently.
You could have properly prescribed medications that come in a 30 day supply, but the reality is one in five are actually prone to addiction.
After just ten days of use.
So even though the opioids might have been prescribed properly, it's the access to them that can lead to improper utilization and then addiction exposure.
So how does this affect our kids?
What should parents do?
Well, if you think about it, it could be a child who accesses leftover pills again from a properly prescribed situation with a parent.
A child may have had wisdom teeth that were removed.
There could have been a car accident, so maybe they were prescribed directly to the child.
It's once they get on them and once they start them, it can be really difficult to get off of them.
So we want to make sure that we're watching for symptoms of maybe backing off of normal relationships that they're in, maybe not having the, the normal energy that they have, and maybe just feeling like they're hiding things from their parents.
How can viewers help opioid strugglers even more?
Well, so talk to your doctor.
There's a lot of help that's out there.
And I think a really great thing is that behavioral care has been destigmatized.
You can get access to care from the privacy of your own home.
So let's make sure that we're encouraging folks to get the care that they need.
And if you know that you're struggling with this, it's not a sign of weakness to ask for help.
Raise your hand and say, I need help.
I'm struggling, and there's going to be people who want to step up and help you.
This is life saving information.
Thank you so much for being here.
My pleasure.
Thanks.

It is.
Important messages in our signature moment every week from our friends at Cigna, and thank them for the $1,500 donation that we were able to give all of our schools here on Football Fridays.
We give it to them every first quarter.
Next up, catching up with our friends from the Heads Up Georgia campaign, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, and it's time to find out about brakes B-r-e-a-k s let's find out what the governor's office has to say about taking breaks and taking breaks.
Brakes is a nonprofit charity that spreads awareness about safe and responsible driving.
It stands for Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe.
It was started back in 2008 when Doug Herbert, NHRA Top Fuel racer, lost both his boys in a horrible car crash.
Doug quickly found out that car crashes were the leading cause of death for young teens, so he felt compassion to try to make a difference and try to provide the community with some safe driving tips and training.
Who thinks they got the most out of this experience?
Our program lasts 3 hours long start to finish.
Our trained instructors will take these teens out in a controlled environment, put them into panic type situations, and then teach them how to deal with that type of situation.
Trust the vehicle, learn car control, and hopefully with that training we can break some bad habits, teach them some new habits and hopefully when they get back on the streets and highways, they make better decisions behind the wheel.
Off the gas.
Keep looking, keep looking, keep looking.
Good job.
We're one of the only teen driving schools that requires a parent to attend, and they can get some training so we can make them better driver coaches and teach them what the new technology in today's vehicle has to offer.
It's a lot different what they were taught 20 or 30 years ago, and they've also probably developed some bad habits along the way.
Go go go go go go go.
Break.
So we will be coming back to Atlanta November 22 and 23rd.
And we think this training is important for any driver behind the wheel.
If you're young or old.
And we just look forward to getting those teens trained up and make them successful.
The heads Up Georgia Student Video contest is back.
If you're a Georgia high school student, we need your help to spread the message.
Make a 32nd PSA about the dangers of distracted driving, and you could win a MacBook Pro.
Important words, as always from our friends at the Governor's Office of Highway Safety and the Heads Up Georgia Campaign.
Reminder, tomorrow is seat check Saturday around the state of Georgia.
Go to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety website.
Go to their social media.
Find out how you can check your child safety seat and find out if it is up to code.
Quick reminder here at GPB sports you have until November 10 to get into the campaign, or you can come up with a PSA at your school and you can win stuff.
That's the official term homecoming.
Still going on here at the Panther Den?
Maybe we'll have an answer as to who the homecoming king and Queen are for the seniors.
By the time we're done, we'll let you know who that is.
Around the corner.
You save it.
Athlete of the week.
And for that one, we travel to Decatur County.
Moore from Langston Hughes coming up after this on the great GPB.

Welcome back to Langston Hughes halftime here on the Football Fridays in Georgia Game of the week Langston Hughes leading Newnan here in a big region game early on in the schedule.
No dilly, no dally zone.
Let's catch up with our friends at you.
Save it and take a trip to Bainbridge and find out what's going on on the courts with our you save it student athlete of the week.
She's got a great serve.
She's got a phenomenal forehand.
She has the talent, but she could sit on her talent and not grow it.
And she wouldn't be near where she is because she chose to put in the work.
She will reap the rewards at the end.
She's always wanted to win and she's always had that drive to do so.
And if she didn't, she wanted to know what she could do to get there.
But to be at the top of your game and still have room to grow and have college scholarships already on the table, and more interested, that's a big accomplishment.
Awesome stuff from our friends at U-save and awesome stuff as well from our friends at Bainbridge High School and the Bainbridge Bearcats.
Now let's catch up with our friends at Georgia EMC.
Take a trip to Middle Georgia and a trip to Hawkinsville where we got a lot of audience participation.
At the end it was a full house.
Here's our look.
Middle Georgia EMC and 35 other participating Georgia Electric membership cooperatives congratulate Hawkinsville High School on winning the GHSA Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
This award honors schools that exhibit exemplary sportsmanship during competitive events.
Come on, let's go.
Only one school in each region in each classification is chosen to receive this annual award.
The GHSA takes into consideration all aspects of sportsmanship, making the award a tribute to the entire community.
Middle Georgia EMC is proud to present the GHSA Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award to Hawkinsville High School as a lineman at Middle Georgia EMC and a graduate of Hawkinsville High School.
I've seen first hand how the community lives out the values of cooperation and sportsmanship, both on and off the field.
Introduced in 2006, this award reinforces the GHSA philosophy that everyone associated with high school activities, from athletes to spectators, should adhere to the fundamental values it represents.
Well, it means a lot to the school because here at Hawkinsville we take pride in that.
Athletics is more than just what happens on the scoreboard.
It's it's how you present yourself in winning and losing respect for officials, other teams, other fans.
This is this is more of a reward just for the high school.
It's more for Red Devil Nation.
This award is really.
About the whole town, the whole community.
They are real supportive of our athletes.
And every time we have a big event, the town comes out and supports us and takes care of us.
And so we're excited about the award and what it means for the whole community.
Time to present the trophy to our friends from Hawkinsville.
Everyone is here in the school today.
We've got coaches, we've got cheerleaders.
I covered you when you played.
All right.
Go for it.
Friends from Middle Georgia EMC, Hawkinsville High School.
You got it.
Play us.
Out.
Georgia EMC in the 36 participating Georgia Electric membership cooperatives are proud to sponsor the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
Congratulations to the Hawkinsville Red Devils community.
He is.
I'm still winded from that presentation, by the way, at Hawkinsville Moore coming up after the break.
It's make that kid an offer.
We find out what's going on here at Langston Hughes.
Halftime show rolls on on the great GPB stick and stay.
We'll be right back.
So.
You wouldn't take a call during the big game.
Oh hey what's up man.
You wouldn't be texting while cheering on your team.
Jacket.
And you definitely wouldn't want to watch a video while marching with the band.
So why would you drive a car while distracted?

Welcome back to Langston Hughes.
We're getting closer to find out who the homecoming king and Queen are here for 2025, but we got to keep moving because it's that time.
Get your fingers ready, get out of your chairs, point at the TV and sit there and go make that kid an offer.
This week's Make That Kid an offer starts at West Hall Nasser Ali, 61, 200 pound senior athlete, captain for the Spartans.
Two way player plus special teams, all region first team defensive back as a junior.
Rushed for two scores, averaged about 14 yards a catch.
Had some 41 total tackles, two TFLs and sacks.
Triple sport athlete, triple jump record holder, seventh in the sectionals for wrestling and a four point oh GPA.
Make Nasser Ali an offer.
Travis Brock, Jones county quarterback, 63, 215.
He transferred in from Paradise, Texas, last year, featured on the top five viral plays in the state.
Finished the season with over 300 yards rushing, 200 passing, four total scores, 3.8 GPA, 27 on the Act AB Honor Roll offers from Lyon and Knox, graduating early in December, make Travis Brock and offer Elijah Fry Norcross both kicking and punting, 63, 190 senior five star, four and a half star punter.
He is nationally ranked by both Coles and Chris Sailer 45 yard punt average with a long of 56 and a 4.8.
Hangtime made seven of nine field goals, longest of 51.
Only five returned kicks so far this season and 41 total kick points.
3.6 GPA and a 12 70.
And he helps coach middle school soccer in his free time make Elijah Fry an offer, and Mason Hollingsworth, Whitfield Academy, six foot, 180 pounder, four games he's already got over 1,200 yards rushing, 17 scores, seven catches for a score as well, and he has been described as the centerpiece of the Wolfpack offense by his head coach.
Make Mason Hollingsworth an offer.
Let's make that kid an offer for this week.
And and.
All right.
Focus also on Aiden McGee from Pius Cade.
Mitchell from northwest Whitfield and Jamal Tough from Collins Hill.
Let's bring in Dr.
Darrell because it's homecoming.
We got to find out what's going on.
He's trying to get us some Intel.
Dr.
Darrell Stephens PhD, and he just tackled me in the frame.
Welcome to Panther Nation.
Thank you all so much for coming out tonight.
We surely appreciate it.
What's it been like here at homecoming week?
Oh, it's great for kids and tiring for adults.
But that's the work that we do.
What's going on here at Langston Hughes that folks need to know about arts academics?
We know about the athletics.
What else is going on?
Well, the most important thing is to remember that we tie everything back to the academics, because the high school is all about graduation.
So we've done an excellent job of just connecting programs like Avid to make sure our kids are focused and know how to be a collegiate student before they get there, and just spending that time making sure that socially and emotionally, they're able to unpack some of the things that they will be contending with as they continue to matriculate through high school.
And he used the word matriculate.
I'm I'm thinking Hank Stram and Dr.
Daryl use the word matriculate.
Thanks for being a great host.
I know you're doing Intel to find out who the homecoming king and queen are.
Thanks for hanging out with us.
Thanks, guys.
And appreciate you here.
We're taking a break.
We're going, we're coming back.
We got highlights.
I was about ready for a hi mom or a hi, dad.
Figured we were getting some of those second half coming up around the corner.
We're catching up with Chip Walker in a bit.
That's a great GPB.
And that's halftime.
We're out.

Back at his halftime in Fairburn and the second ranked Langston Hughes Panthers lead the Newnan Cougars 19 to nothing.
Matt Stewart, along with Wayne Gandy and Wayne.
As we take a look back at those first half highlights, it was the ultimate huddle highlight reel for Quantavious Wiggins.
I mean, you can't get any better, bigger or faster than this young man.
And what he did in that first half, running the ball.
43 yard touchdown run for his first score of the night.
Just getting warmed up right there.
Then he decided to delight us with a 50-3 yard touchdown.
Just a foot race to the end zone here for Q Wiggins.
And then he topped that off with an 80 yard touchdown run and 181 yards rushing on four carries in the first half.
We knew they were going to run the ball with him in Baker, and he's shined in that first half was Q Wiggins.
Just an unbelievable performance by Quantavious Wiggins.
John Nelson is standing by with head coach Chip Walker and our Johnny's Pizza halftime interview.
Thank you very much.
Matt here with Chip.
What did you talk to him about at the half.
Well, you know, playing four quarters, we got like we talked earlier in the week.
You got to limit explosives, and we didn't do as good a job of that as we would like to.
And then when you get into a position to score, you got to put points on the board and you can't, you know, miss the field goal and bogged down down here.
Those are the things we talked about.
Then at the same time, offensively for you, there were moments, but they weren't able to connect into drives.
And then the missed field goal, the beginning was part of that too.
Yeah.
You know and then I mean so we just got to keep doing what we're doing.
You know we feel like we got some good things to do.
Keep moving the ball.
We got to get a stop right here after halftime.
Get get a stop.
Get the ball and let's go see what happens.
Thanks for your time.
Appreciate it.
Chip Walker head coach at Newnan.
He's got some work to do down 19.
Let's send it back upstairs.
Matt and Wayne for quarter number 3.
All right.
Thank you.
Nelly.
243 yards.
Total yards rushing for Langston Hughes in the first half alone.
And of course 181 of that was Quantavious Wiggins.
And as much as they dominated running the ball, Langston Hughes completely shut out Newnan running the ball, they abandoned that after about two drives, tried to throw the ball out on the edge and then started getting vertical, trying to get the ball to John Matthews.
But the rushing yardage really just tells the story.
The explosive runs of Wiggins and their ability to control the football and the offensive line doing their thing tonight for Langston Hughes.
And John Nelson brought it up when he talked to Andrico Hines.
There.
And how about this?
Let's stop on that thought for a moment.
Kijon Brown-Braxton their starting defensive end, who had a pretty good first half, has even better half time.
He's named the homecoming King here at Langston Hughes.
Yeah, something you rarely see.
But it is 2025.
There was a time that you couldn't even put your name on the ballot if you played, because you couldn't leave the locker room, but what an honor for him.
The Eastern Michigan commit, now able to go out here and get back to playing some football.
But an honor at halftime for the student body to name him that.
So congratulations to him.
It's been all Panthers here tonight.
What I was going to say was and Nelly brought it up with Rico, that that time-out he called on the Cougars opening drive to slow them down really was a pivotal moment in the game.
Yeah, he could tell and read his team.
They were a little excited and getting out of what they typically do, out of techniques and things like that.
It was an intentional time-out for that.. Second half.
Kickoff is brought to you by Heads Up Georgia.

So a very festive atmosphere here at Willie Cannon Field following the homecoming ceremony and a 19 nothing lead for the Panthers.
We'll see.
As Chip Walker said, let's see if they can get a stop and then put something together offensively.
And maybe change.
Flip the script here in the second half.
That's a tall task for this Newnan team.
Langston Hughes and that's going to be a ball that's going to come down at the goal line.
And on the return Omari Harris up to the 25, make it the 35.
And so good field position for the Panthers to start this third quarter.
McKinney Panthers team continue to run the ball that they have.
Let's see what this Cougar defense, the adjustments they were able to make.
A lot of it is effort.
And some of it is just run fits.
They have to learn that once these running backs get to that second level, they are too dangerous.
You got to start making some plays at the line of scrimmage.
And outside of being diversified on offense, is there any really reason to do anything other than run the.
Ball, just run the ball.
You're up 19 right here.
Just a great time to pull out this big time running game.
So Carson Baker starting the second half.
Darnell Kelly six of eight passing for 68 yards in that first half.
And Carson Baker ten carries for 57 yards in that first half.
And Baker hitting the backfield and the Newnan defense swarming, drops him for a yard loss.
Jordan Jordan George the d n right there playing upfield, playing on that side of the ball.
They're going to have to continue to do this as the pool right there.
You can see Golson just not able to get around.
Nice job there by George finally getting some penetration and then rallying to the ball.
There for star linebacker Rodney Colton was their top tackler in that first half.
He had seven total tackles with two TfL.
Ball goes to Baker.
He slashes through a tackle and he's still on his feet.
They haven't gotten him on the ground yet.
And he's going to surge forward and pick up the first down at the 40.
No, they're going to drop it back and be a yard short.
Just physical right here.
Losing that edge going underneath by the defensive end.
Lawless right there allowing Baker to get to the edge.
And then he just showing you the strength.
The offensive line pushing shoving.
There is no whistle falling forward making it a third and short.
Florida Gator commit over 53 other offers.
One of the top running backs in the country rated as high as number 7 at that position in 2026.
Tried to cut back and slips and goes down, so he's going to be short of the first down.
It's going to be fourth down.
Looks like maybe a holding call where the flag is right here on the offensive line.
A tough break right there.
Just losing his footing as he tried to cut back.
10 yards.
Still third down.
Let's get a number.
Oh.
So Chip Walker decides to take the penalty and make it third down and 11.
Not a lot of third and long for Langston Hughes tonight to try to convert.
Efficient in third down situation.
This is one of their few opportunities tonight in this down and distance to try to keep this drive alive.
Yeah they're two of three on third downs.
So they have not been in this position.
They've hit so many big plays.
Let's see if Newnan can get this third down.
Stop that.
They were looking for coming out of the halftime locker room.
Kelly going to the air.
Wings it out there.
It's caught for a first down across midfield.
Down to the 47 yard line.
And that is Jamarion McKinney their top receiver with his first catch of the game.
Nice job of settling in this hole for his quarterback.
Right here is McKinney.
You can see just getting in that soft zone of the defense setting down for his quarterback, making himself available and a nice grab.
So first and ten.
Ball goes to Wiggins and Wiggins.
That's only a four yard gain.
That's going to bring that per carry average way down.
For an explosive back this young man is.
And we knew the speed that Baker would Wiggins has shown you another level too with his speed tonight after Warpaint working.
Just need a little crease in there.
The offensive lineman and that excites you up front.
You know you have those kind of backs.
You just gotta hold that block.
Give him that crease to get in.
He originally committed to USF University of South Florida, then chose the team on the other side.
The other coast, Florida International.
Keep moving.
Gotta keep moving.
Quick pass goes to McKinney McKinney got a blocker.
McKinney he's got the first down down close to the 30.
Nice read there by Kelly a lot of room out here to throw this ball.
Playing soft coverage.
Look at the yardage right there that he has to be able to just pick up that first down.
Playing soft as TJ Gates trying to make sure nobody gets behind him.
First and ten McKinney to make that kid an offer.
Guy he's their top receiver now.
20 catches on the season.
He had 68 last year at Dutchtown.
Yet no offers.
First and ten.
Wiggins goes in motion.
Kelly looking downfield now going to run it to the far side and Kelly going to step out of bounds at the 29.
Flag out.
Picked up two on the play.
And we've seen this offense struggle a little when it takes a little while to get the play going to get a little stagnant.
On the offense 10 yards from the previous spot.
And we'll repeat first down.
Well, when we talked to Andrico Hines, he said the one thing that he would like to see his team improve on is efficiency.
He said in 2022, we scored on nine out of ten possessions.
He said.
When you get to the playoffs, teams start to try to slow it down on you and limit your possessions, so you got to make the most of your possessions.
Doesn't feel like they're quite as efficient in their possessions as you'd like them to be.
They're pretty good.
Though.
I think he's got high standards.
Kelly setting up a screen ball goes to Wiggins Wiggins gets back to the original line of scrimmage.
We've seen this play several times to Wiggins or either Baker.
They just run that little screen.
To the short side of the field, pick up yardage, get it to the backs, big targets to be able to just loft the ball over the D line.
Pick up eight or 10 yards right there.
Do you think it's tough to get that war paint off after the game?
I imagine it's a process.
Yeah.
It probably takes two or three days to get it all off.
It looks kind of sticky.
Second down ball sitting at the 30.
Handoff goes to Wiggins again.
He hits the hole and cuts back and he's down to the 24.
Bigger question is are you going to wear that to the homecoming.
Dance?
He can do anything.
After the performance.
We've seen him tonight, especially if they hold on to win this game.
Being the player of the game, if he can continue what he's doing and they can win, cut back there on that counter play to pick up another four or 5 yards.
That's how explosive he's been, where he picks up four or five yards.
It seems like it's a bad play, but that's really what you're supposed to do when you run the ball.
Third down and three.
Handoff goes to Baker and Baker is going to be short of the first down by about a yard.
Going to bring up fourth down.
You imagine that Coach Hines is going to keep his offense out there.
The way they're able to run the ball.
And the power and vision of Baker and Wiggins really like to see Baker Moore in coming downhill a little bit.
We know he has those quick feet and the vision to bounce to the outside, but he doesn't.
He's not able to get any momentum when he attacks the line of scrimmage.
13 carries, 68 yards for Carson Baker tonight.
Gets the ball again.
Gets the first down down to the 18 yard line.
Carson Baker.
And that's an example of what I'm talking about right here.
Just get downhill.
No negotiating trying to find a hole right there with his size and speed.
Big hole to run in right there.
You can see nobody wants to step into that hole.
Ben Roche TJ Gates being a little slow to get in there to take him on.. Six, two, 210.
Just a powerful running back with 30-1 career touchdowns.
First and ten.
Play action.
Kelly throws incomplete McKinney was his target.
Just never getting his feet under him to make that pass.
Is Kelly right there kind of throwing as he was falling back before the pressure got there.
Coming up short on that pass.
Kelly picked the Rams of Colorado State over 24 other offers, including Middle Tennessee and Georgia Southern.
He's thrown for over 6,000 yards in his career.
Approaching 7,000, actually, he's at 6,000, including his Peachtree Ridge years.
Hand off goes to Carson Baker again.
Nice, steady, methodical drive here for Langston Hughes.
Panthers.
Good vision there.
Cut that ball back upfield by Baker.
And that was just him being a great four star running back there to able to pick up and make some positive.
So third down and six.
The Panthers have chewed up nearly half the quarter already.
You can see Kelly trying to get information from the sideline defense showing a little pressure.
Linebackers are up.
Kelly fires intercepted inside the five yard line bringing it back the other way.
Might be a pick six finally brought down at the 32 yard line after the pick by Jamarion Brewer.
Excuse me excuse me excuse me.
So a huge play finally for Newnan on defense stops Hughes inside the five yard line.
And that is just the third interception that Kelly has thrown this season.
Pressure off the edge.
Bo Josiah Smith and just a great job following the quarterback eyes.
There by Brewer and he takes the speed of Quantavious Wiggins to have to run him down right there.
He's going to score.
Excuse me.
So let's see if Newnan can now cash in here and get some offense.
Going.
Gentlemen.
Excuse me.
Put your headset on.
Got the chain with the pick and the return by Jamarion Brewer.
Maybe the break that the Cougars were looking for.
Handoff goes to Grier and Grier down to the 27.
For the Cougars.
I really like how Shawn Grier attacks the line of scrimmage.
56, 175 senior.
He's rushed for over 500 yards in his career there.
A running back by committee.
They use three different guys.
Davis being the lead back, but Grier not too far behind.
Campbell quickly dumps it off here, complete to Matthews.
Matthews slips through a tackle and down to the five.
John Matthews, showing off that three star athleticism right there.
After the catch is.
Receiver screen.
Good blocking there by Greer and Eli Pitman kick out block.
Get up in that lane.
Big play there by Matthews.
First and goal to go for the Cougars for the first time tonight.
Grier going to be dropped for a TfL back at the eight yard line.
The homecoming king Kijon Brown-Braxton with the tackle.
Braxton Russell Simpson 24 both in the backfield.
Right there.
Combo tackle right there.
Nowhere to run that ball.
Great penetration by the defensive front.
They spotted at the seven.
So second and goal from their Braxton committed committed to Eastern Michigan over eight other offers including Wake Forest and Memphis.
At 13 TfL and 11 quarterback sacks last year playing the linebacker position.
They got him playing down on the line with his hand in the ground.
Now.
Coach Hines talked about him being more disciplined, and he loves how unselfish he's been to take that role.
On.
Campbell drops it off for Grier Grier is going to try to get to the edge, and he's not going to be able to and take a loss back at the ten Cougars going in reverse.
And again, Brown-Braxton was the first guy leading the charge.
Brown-Braxton leading the charge.
Great job.
By Dale Perry the safety watch ten come out of the secondary and make Grier have to cut this ball.
Watch out ten gets outside leverage and makes him cut that ball back into Brown-Braxton.
Yeah, Brown-Braxton actually was the second guy there.
You're right.
Perry the safety coming up and making the play and they like him too.
He's a sophomore with seven offers, including Colorado and Oregon State.
Third down and goal from the ten.
Campbell fires complete inside the five and down to the two it goes and Britt and I'm guessing they'll be going for it here on fourth down.
Down for.
The Cougars.
What is offensive coordinator TJ Barton is going to dial up personnel groups.
Nice.
Just stop right there by Jaylen Britt catching the ball.
Almost getting out of that tackle.
But sending his team here on the two yard line.
What would you do here on fourth and two.
Right here I would run the ball.
I would get it to Greer.
Then go right downhill attack this defense, cut down the splits by the offensive line.
They're averaging 2.1 yards per carry.
I don't know that they can get the two yards on this Langston Hughes defense.
Little confusion going to the time-out there.
Didn't like the look.
Time out Newnan wants to think about it on fourth and two.

Go!
Back at Willie Canfield Matt Stewart Wayne Gandy, John Nelson and a big play coming up for this Newnan offense.
If they're going to have any chance of getting back in this game, they're facing fourth and two right here and trailing 19 to nothing.
Calling the time-out didn't like the formation look of the defense.
And here going to spread them out a little bit there.
General Brody Campbell decide where to go with the ball.
Kameron Davis lines up next to Campbell in the backfield.
Otherwise you got four wides and Britt goes in motion.
And Campbell looking and firing and broken up by Garris.
And it's going to go over on downs.
Matthews was the target I think.
Garris maybe the guy in front of Garris got his hands.
On the ball.
Looks like he's Jabari here just falling back.
Great job.
As you can see, King Garris trailing Matthews there late.
And nice job there by the free safety Freeman to fall back into that play.
Get a hand on the ball.
Denying that touchdown.
So after getting the ball first and goal at the five yard line, Newnan cannot get the needed five more yards.
And Hughes comes up with the goal line stop and gets the ball over on downs.
Just a back breaker right there for Newnan after they got the pick and got down close.
And now the freshman sophomore Prince Aminu is in there at quarterback.
Prince Aminu.
And that was Wiggins on the carry.
But Prince Aminu has come in to run the offense.
Now the sophomore who's been offered by Georgia State and Morehouse.
And we saw a little frustration between Kelly and Coach Hines as he came off the field after that interception.
You can see Kelly is on the sideline standing, but the young man Aminu.
In a junior who has had some playing time this year.
He's 15 out of 27 passing, tosses the ball to Wiggins and Wiggins on the cutback across the 20 and Wiggins another huge run up to the 40 1 yard line.
Runs with such confidence in what he can do, getting to the edge.
Good blocking there by the offensive line and the receivers out there.
McKinney with the kickout block and then it's just all about talent.
The side stepping, the size, the strength.
By Wiggins all on display tonight.
Wiggins up to 230 yards rushing in this game.
Handoff goes to Baker Carson Baker up to the 45 yard line.
I don't think we've ever had, at least in the over decade I've been calling Football Fridays in Georgia.
I don't think we've ever had a 300 yard rushing game that we had it in the state finals.
You and I remember Brooks County and, OJ Arnold, who's now at Georgia Southern, had the five touchdowns and over 300 yards rushing.
I don't think we ever had it on football Fridays in Georgia, though, and Wiggins has got a. Shot at it.
Yes, very a whole quarter to go.
And he's already shown you he can go the distance from 80 yards.
We're in the final minute of this third quarter.
There goes Carson Baker all the way down to the 42 yard line.
Just really love how Baker runs between the tackles.
Shoulders square downhill, falling forward, breaking through tackles.
Very patient.
Good vision, strong runner.
All day.
Carson Baker homage to Adrian Peterson.
Final play of the third quarter in all likelihood right here.
Baker is thrown down at the 39 yard line after Romell Willis made the tackle.
And that is the end of the third quarter here on the south side.
Hughes it's been their night.
They lead it 19.
Nothing.
As we head to the fourth.

Heading to the fourth quarter here at Willie Cannon Field and Langston Hughes.
Looking at their sixth win of the season, ranked number 2 in the state behind Thomas County, Central.
Yellowjackets opening up region play tonight against Lee County.
That's a big one down in South Georgia.
But here tonight in Fairburn, it's been all Langston Hughes.
And a ground game that has pushed over 300 yards there at 329 yards rushing heading to the fourth quarter.
Aminu going up top and trying to connect with McKinney.
McKinney getting a step there on the corner.
Kari North had a step on him.
A little more patience on the throw.
There.
Aminu.
Young man kind of put in that action.
Coach seems.
To want to see what he has in his backup here and this late in the game.
Well, this is the future guy.
They've kind of been in that one year cycle.
They had Christian Langford last year and then Darnell Kelly transferred back into the program.
They got him for one year.
Aminu can be that guy that will be their quarterback for the next two years.
Kind of getting back to the way they had the quarterback position running with, you know, Prentiss Air.
Nolan at quarterback when they won the state title.
Aminu going up top again and it's caught inside the 15.
That's a touchdown for the Panthers as the ball goes to Chase Golson.
Nice job Chase Colson the backup tight end 642 25.
Senior working out of the slot right there.
Getting down the field.
Good protection confident.
Throw right there by Aminu.
Dropping it in the bucket to the big tight end.
Who's got behind the defense.
Second touchdown catch of the season for Golson.
And that is the third touchdown pass of the season for Aminu.
And the Pat by Brock is up.
And good.
And it is 26 to nothing.
Panthers.

26 nothing Langston Hughes on top Football Fridays presented by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety reminding you heads up, Georgia.
Park your phone while you're driving.

Heads up John, we're sending it to you.
Yeah, Chase Colson catching a bit of a breather here.
He's modeling for us after the touchdown pass.
And by the way, next time around, I do have the answer on the face paint on Quantavious Wiggins.
And what the magic is there?
Region one 6-A will start with our look there tonight as they start region play Camden County and Valdosta.
Valdosta no problems there in Kingsland.
Valdosta leading Lowndes is leading Colquitt County and that one is a back and forth.
That one is 147 Richmond Hill leading it tipped that one's also third and fourth quarter.
So the early hands, if it comes that way in one 6-A it would be Lowndes.
It would be Valdosta and Richmond Hill starting out one and oh, man.
Yeah.
How about that down in South Georgia this is the big region opener night region one and 6-A region one.
In 4-A.
Region two in 5-A.
So a lot of huge games going on in South Georgia tonight as they're getting down to serious business with region play.
So the kickoff by Brock goes into the end zone.
So the Cougars will bring it out to the 20 yard line.
Now trailing by 26 points.
And just 11 46 left on the clock.
We've seen an effort by this offense trying to get vertical.
Brody Campbell has had some some big plays here and there, and they haven't been consistent.
Been able to throw the ball.
And now 26 zero feel like you have to be in that two minute mode here to give yourself any chance.
But it's about your execution and operation right here.
Handoff goes to Greer, and Greer is going to be up to the 25, close to the 26 for Greer.
On the 35 36 yards rushing tonight for Newnan compared that to 3,329 for Hughes.
So almost ten times as much.
Just no success against this defensive front.
This offensive line.
Of the Cougars has a little size but just has been overmatched with quickness and speed.
Ball goes to Britt.
He's up to the 28.
Defense.
But the cavalry's coming from Newnan.
Coach Walker was bragging to us this week.
And then again down on the field prior to the game.
They got a massive offensive line in their freshman class.
They're really looking forward to that.
And a couple of them will be starters next year.
Yeah, some of them already are the size of what you would want your seniors look like, especially on that offensive line.
Had some big guys.
We felt.
Another year in the off season and being in the program.
We'll just get better.
So we just had a lightning warning go off.
I thought that was just part of the effects.
Yeah, just trying to fire up the crowd.
But apparently that is a lightning alert that we just had go off here.
That was what the siren was about.
And you can see the fans in the stands having to get up and leave.
So the good news is you won't miss out on any football.
We got our stream game going on at Lakewood Stadium tonight and a great battle between Hayfield Charter and Carver at.
And once we get what's going on down here now, Nelson's trying to figure things out.
Once we hear from him, we'll send you there as we go into a weather delay.
Here in Fairburn.

No matter the season, Breda works to protect the inside and outside of your home.
Breda Pest Management.
They handle bugs and critters.
26-0 second ranked Langston Hughes leading Newnan here early in the fourth quarter and we've entered a weather delay here in Fairburn with lightning in the area.
Let's send it down to John.
John, what's the story?
Okay, so here's what we know, at least according to weather apps and things like that.
And we all have like seven, eight or nine different ones.
The one that was being used here on the field has the lightning within the radius.
Some places it's eight miles, some places it's seven.
So we're within the seven mile radius of lightning in the area.
And I'll put that in quotation marks.
But looking at radar and future radar, the path of the storm and the front in and of itself is supposed to pass to our north.
Nevertheless, with the lightning still inside that seven mile radius.
That's why we have the 30 minute delay.
We'll see if the path changes any more and more to the north.
But we are right now 30 minutes on the clock.
It doesn't matter where that lightning is.
We're in that lightning circle and that's where we are.
John, you did that very well.
Unfortunately, we have too much experience with this.
Yeah I know, and so I'm going to try and dial up my weather and we'll see if it's any different.
But right now.
So for those of you following along as part of our Multiscreen experience, lightning area.
Yes, passing north of us also.
Yes.
Fingers crossed that that is going to continue to be the case more when we know it down here.
With the score being 26 to nothing here.
Wayne, you got to wonder if this turns into a lengthy delay, if they'll even resume the game with it being 26.
Nothing.
Of course, that would probably be the option of the coaches, and the coaches got to make that decision as to whether they would want to do that.
But there's only 10.5 minutes left in the game and it's 26-0 Yeah, you have to figure that Coach Walker will give it a little time, maybe to pass over.
But this is a big region game.
A little time, you know, almost 11 minutes.
But you don't really have the momentum.
Langston Hughes has been outplaying you so far in the game, so it'll be a tough decision just to give up a region.
Game two Langston Hughes if you're coach Walker.
So the big story here tonight has been Quantavious Wiggins eight carries for 230 yards total offense.
He scored three touchdowns tonight 43 53 and 80 yards.
There's great blocking up front.
And then the explosiveness of this young man.
Three star FIU.
You know we've seen guys as the recruiting process goes I mean you turn on the tape tonight.
You wouldn't be surprised to see him somewhere else.
But look at the explosion.
The speed right here.
Just too much speed for this Newnan defense to handle.
Just been over the top performance here tonight.
And then the fourth touchdown came there in that third quarter.
On the touchdown pass to Golson from Prince Aminu.
The sophomore quarterback who came in there in the third quarter.
So a 26-0 lead.
Yeah.
You can see why Coach Hines is so high on him right there on that pass a big arm.
Not the biggest of quarterbacks but touch on the ball.
Yeah.
And technically that touchdown right there came early in the fourth quarter.
Like on the first play of the fourth quarter.
So a 26-0 lead.
So we're in a weather delay right now.
And the other game our stream game right now at Lakewood Stadium is at halftime.
So there's no need to send it there just yet.
But we'll wait and see.
We'll monitor the weather going to step aside, take a break and come back and keep you updated on the weather situation here in Fairburn.

I've been checking food labels for years now.
I like to buy local and I like to buy healthy for my family.
So I started checking the labels on our clothes too.
Did you know synthetic fibers like polyester are pretty much made of oil?
No thanks.
I look for cotton now, which grows right here in Georgia, a major source of the world's cotton.
Cotton is natural, renewable, sustainable.
And buying cotton supports Georgia farmers.
Good enough for me and my family.
Back at Willie Cannon Field here early in the fourth quarter, we are in a weather delay with the second ranked and undefeated Langston Hughes Panthers in control of this game, leading Newnan 26 to nothing.
This gives us the opportunity to tell you about our game next Friday night, when we will be at the Hill.
Collins Hill, playing host to the Buford Wolves in a huge region.
Eight 6-A battle.
We've already seen the second ranked Wolves once this season on GPB, and this will be a big game in their region next Friday night.
730 right here on GPB and our stream Game of the week will be back in Bartow County with the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes taking on the Cass Colonels Cass off to a great start this season.
4-1 They knocked off North Cobb, the team we saw last week on GPB Sports Football Fridays in Georgia.
So Cartersville and Cass, the hurricanes currently number 2 in 4-A and undefeated.
So that'll be a fun game too.
Got two great games for you next week on GPB sports.
Jon Nelson your turn.
All right.
Time for the weather update.
So here's your radar.
So Daryl's going to help me out here.
And I'm trying I'm going to try and show you what the radar looks like.
Let me go through one more section of the loop Daryl and I'll turn I'll turn it to you.
So it's not heading this way.
According to our friends at the channels, the channel that does weather.
So here's your look.
You'll see when it gets to the now part, and you'll see that everything is going to the north and the east.
It's northwest of us, and it continues to roll its way.
And nowhere close to us are we going to get any kind of precipitation.
But once again, since we're on the clock, it's going to be keeping an eye on the circle when it comes to where the lightning is in the seven mile radius.
So I don't know what the the rundown is when it comes to 7 miles, but looked like maybe another batch of heavy rain around 11:00, but still to our north and west.
We'll keep an eye on the loop and see if that changes.
Let's go into this particular region.
Daryl.
I'm going to bend down and grab some paper.
So hang out with me for a second.
All right.
So this region as we know it.
Region three 5-A coming into tonight once again Hughes Lovejoy Northgate.
All at two.
And.
Oh, Lovejoy at morrow.
That one is a precinct that is not reporting yet.
So we don't know about that particular game, but you could have Lovejoy, if they beat Morrow, who comes into that game at 1-4 0-2 in region play.
You could have Lovejoy at three and.
Oh, Hughes, if they win tonight, they get to 3-0 Northgate and McIntosh.
Northgate was winning that 121 seven.
That was in the second quarter.
So if things continue to go as they have been tonight in three 5-A at the end of this evening, you could have Hughes, Lovejoy and Northgate all at two and 0-6 zero by the end of the weekend.
Heading into matchday to game day number 7.
But if Newnan goes on and loses tonight, they go to 1-2 in region play, McIntosh would go to 1-2 in region play, and so you would have Newnan at four and two, McIntosh at three, at 2-4 both at 1-2 in the region.
So you've got two distinct groups right now as it continues to go forward three at 2-0 fighting it out for the one, the two and the three and Newnan and McIntosh having to fight it out and figure it out as to who's going to be the four.
But right now, after three games, if things continue to go as they've gone tonight, Matt, you could have three teams at the end of the weekend at three and zero, Newnan at four and two and McIntosh at 2-4 both at 1-2 Fighting for that four seed and a big road trip coming up in the playoffs.
So you got to you could have a lot of folks at the top in region three.
5-A I tell you what, you gotta give a lot of credit to what Kevin Whitley has done.
He's the head coach at Northgate.
They're 5-0 and they beat Newnan earlier this year for the first time ever.
But the the five wins, the 5-0 start.
I mean this looks like this could be their best season since 2015 or 2016.
In 2015, they got to the semifinals, which was the best ever season in program history.
So coach Kevin Whitley, who's been around, we've seen coach Kevin Whitley.
Stockbridge, Lakeside grad, the whole thing.
Yeah, he was there.
And of course, he was down at Georgia Southern for a while, too.
They've outscored their opponents by close to 100 points per game in their first five games.
You can see the the lightning warning system going off here.
And I'm glad you finished your sentence because I was like, wait a minute, you said lightning and you paused.
I was like, wait a minute there, sir.
And then you finished it and you said, warning system.
I was like, okay, that can continue.
Yes.
We haven't seen any like, no.
But like I said, everything is still starting to our northwest and just continuing to our northeast.
But it's the radius that's the key here, right.
Continue your point about the the lightning and warning system, sir.
Yeah.
What I was going to say is yes, it's within the seven mile radius.
We have not seen any lightning.
We haven't even heard any thunder.
No.
So I mean, it's it's really got to be.
Horsepower, but no thunder.
Yes.
It's, it's got to be really right there on the edge of that seven mile radius because we have not seen any flash whatsoever here.
But of course, abundance of caution.
That's why they have the seven mile radius.
They want to be careful.
And we all want to be careful.
So it's still a weather delay here in a 26.
Nothing lead for Langston Hughes.
We'll step aside for another break.
You wouldn't take a call during the big game.
Oh hey what's up man?
You wouldn't be texting while cheering on your team.
Jacket.
And you definitely wouldn't want to watch a video while marching with the band.
So why would you drive a car while distracted?
Driving isn't a game when you lose on the road, it could lead to a crash.
So when you get behind the wheel.
Put the distractions aside, drive hands free and save lives.
Heads up Georgia.
You've seen what your electric cooperative can do for your home, your workplace, your weekend.
But what lights us up is empowering your local community and economy.
Georgia's EMC support 15,000 jobs and invest $16 billion in infrastructure annually.
And because we operate at cost, any extra revenue is reinvested into your co-op or return to members investment with impact.
That's the electric cooperative difference.
Georgia's EMC is so much more than electricity.
26-0 Langston Hughes on top of Newnan as this weather delay continues.
Of course I'm no weatherman, but just listening to what Jon Nelson has been telling us down on the field and looking at the the weather map there on his phone, I would think that we have a great opportunity to continue this game because it looks like what's going on and what triggered the lightning delay in the first place was close to 7 miles away, and it's moving away from where we are right now.
So hopefully that's going to get us back out here on the football field.
To wrap up the final 1046 of this game.
And just in short order.
So looking forward to that, Wayne.
Well, we do have a we can see it from our vantage point.
A lot of cars, a lot of fans are leaving.
So I hope some of them stick around.
If this game continues.
It was a great atmosphere in here tonight, especially homecoming.
A lot of people out but 26-0 Langston Hughes doing their thing, running the ball and Newnan Cougars trying to get back in the game with the passing game.
Just haven't had a lot of success scoring touchdowns or getting down the field.
So Jon Nelson's down on the field.
You got any updates for us?
John I'm still staring at the weather.
And once again like 11:00 and then at 12:15 it's still northeast northwest and heavy, but nothing immediately here in the area.
I was going to say, bite your tongue when you're talking about 11:00.
12, 15 what I'm doing.
Hey, look, I always using qualifiers, sir.
I always will sit there and say, well, right now this is happening.
I'm not going to sit there and jinx a no hitter, okay?
I don't I don't do that kind of stuff around here.
But yeah, as I'm staring at the radar currently, comma.
Sir comma, it is all still right now everything is north northwest to northeast or from the west up to the northeast.
And so it is still passing us by.
And we're going to try to keep an eye on this stuff.
Like I said, it is around us.
It is not here.
And that's the the look from the radar from our friends at the channel that does the weather and what we're going to do.
We're going to take a peek at some of the the other really cool features that we have the chance to do.
If you missed it at halftime, we have a Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award that is tied to our friends at Georgia EMC, and we do a handful of those every year.
The one that aired at halftime had a very special ending because a lot of folks made the point to hang out with us for the for the trophy presentation here is that look from Hawkinsville High School.
Middle Georgia EMC is proud to present the cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award to Hawkinsville High School as a lineman at Middle Georgia EMC and a graduate of Hawkinsville High School.
I've seen firsthand how the community lives out the values of cooperation and sportsmanship, both on and off the field.
Introduced in 2006, this award reinforces the philosophy that everyone associated with high school activities, from athletes to spectators, should adhere to the fundamental values it represents.
Well, it means a lot to the school because here at Hawkinsville, we take pride in that.
Athletics is more than just what happens on the scoreboard.
It's it's how you present yourself in winning and losing respect for the officials, other teams, other fans.
This is this is more an award just for the high school.
It's more for Red Devil Nation.
This award is really about the whole town, the whole community.
They are a real supportive of our athletes.
And every time we have a big event, the town comes out, supports us and takes care of us.
And so we're excited about the award and what it means for the whole community.
Time to present the trophy to our friends from Hawkinsville.
Everyone is here in the school today.
We got coaches, we got cheerleaders.
I covered you when you played.
All right, go for it.
Friends from Middle Georgia, EMC, Hawkinsville High School.
You got it.
Play us.
Out.
Georgia EMC in the 36 participating Georgia Electric membership cooperatives are proud to sponsor the cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
Congratulations to the Hawkinsville Red Devils community.
It was fun to catch up with our friends down in Middle Georgia at Hawkinsville, because in the time that we have been down there ever since Bobby Gentry Field housed state championship games, they've had a lot of renovations there.
In Pulaski County.
The Board of Education has done a lot of great work.
It is now a turf surface at Bobbie Gentry, and they've got an entirely new high school set up.
Great gym, as you got to see.
And to have the entire student body show up for the trophy presentation was really, really cool.
And all of the coaches and seeing Todd Coley, who was the quarterback for Lee Campbell, who won a championship game at Hawkinsville, it was really cool to to see all of that happen and we can't thank our friends at Georgia EMC enough for helping us out with the presentations.
With the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award.
While that package was running the magic of television, Willie Cannon, the athletic director at Hughes, was letting us know what the situation is.
And Matt, we have the distance.
It was 6.8 that that lightning was 6.8 miles.
So two tenths of a mile inside the circle, but nothing anywhere close.
And we are on that 30 minute clock.
So when the siren went off and the announcement was made, that's when the 30 minutes started.
And so we are in that 30 minute zone right now probably.
What about halfway through?
If math serves right, Matt.
At least 20 minutes into it.
Yeah.
So in the next say 10 minutes or so, we should have some kind of definitive answers.
We're also waiting for halftime to wrap up at Lakewood as Hapeville Charter and Carver.
Atlanta had a late start to their game, supposed to kick off at eight.
I think it started like 839 or so.
So we're waiting on that one to go to the third quarter.
And so after this, if the lightning comes back inside the radius, inside that seven mile radius, in consultation with Willie Cannon, then it would be up to the discussion of Chip Walker, the head coach at Newnan and the administration here as to what to do next.
If we go through another delay cycle, then they're going to start having some serious conversations about what to do with the remainder of this game.
Do they wait it out?
What that gets into?
And so hopefully we don't have to get to that decision.
But that is in play as an option.
If something happens, say, in the next little while.
Since we're here under the 30 minute run also at halftime, something that we really like to do here at GPB is we like to focus on the rest of the state, and we like to talk to coaches.
And Matt and I have done this for a couple of seasons now.
And Hannah, we ask coaches that we visit with on a weekly basis and to reach out with us on social media and through emails.
Are there student athletes on your roster that are not getting the looks you think they deserve, or just not getting looks, period.
That really do need looks?
And that's what we've done with the Make That Kid an offer segment which has really taken off.
And we can't thank everybody here in the state for it.
Here is this week's edition of Make That Kid, an offer that includes a state leading yardage back.
This week, to make that running offer starts at West Hall Nasser Ali, 61, 200 pounds.
Senior athlete, captain for the Spartans.
Two way player plus special teams.
All region first team defensive back as a junior.
Rushed for two scores, averaged about 14 yards a catch.
Had some 41 total tackles, two TFLs and sacks.
Triple sport athlete, triple jump record holder, seventh in the sectionals for wrestling and a four point oh GPA.
Make Nasser Aliu an offer.
Travis Brock, Jones, county quarterback, 63, 215.
He transferred in from Paradise, Texas, last year, featured on the top five viral plays in the state.
Finished the season with over 300 yards rushing, 200 passing, four total scores, 3.8 GPA, 27 on the Act AB Honor Roll offers from Lyon and Knox, graduating early in December, make Travis Brock an offer.
Elijah Frye Norcross, both kicking and punting, 63, 190 senior five star, 4.5 star punter.
He is nationally ranked by both coaches and Chris Sailer 45 yard punt average with a long of 56 and a 4.8.
Hangtime made seven of nine field goals, longest of 51.
Only five returned kicks so far this season, and 41 total kick points.
3.6 GPA and a 12 70.
And he helps coach middle school soccer in his free time.
Make Elijah Frye an offer, and Mason Hollingsworth, Whitefield Academy, six foot, 180 pounder, four games he's already got over 1,200 yards rushing, 17 scores, seven catches for a score as well, and he has been described as the centerpiece of the Wolfpack offense by his head coach, Mike Mason Hollingsworth, an offer?
Let's make that kid an offer for this week.
And if you are a fan, a parent, a an administrator, a coach that is hanging out with us and watching, send us as much information as you can.
Academic, athletic, the whole thing, what's going on, where they're thinking about going to school, what they want to do for the next stage in their lives.
And we can put that in the hopper and showcase a lot of athletes that are in the make that kid an offer category here around the state of Georgia.
You can shoot us an email, find us on social media GPB sports at GPB.
Org all the things reach out to us.
Let us know about.
Make that kid an offer here around the state of Georgia.
Okay, bit of an update.
Caught up with referee Tim Smith and they were told by the administration here and by all the powers that are to come on back out.
So we're about, I think, 10 minutes left in this 30 minute window.
Matt.
So we've got a crew.
They're out here.
We're out here.
All we hear are jet engines because we are on the weekend approach pattern at Hartsfield International Airport.
And that's the only noise that's going on in the air.
Nothing inside the seven mile radius as we know.
And so that's right now the update down here on the field.
And so you're looking.
Thank you.
Thank you, Glenn Diamond, in my ear, 1018 is the target time now as coming back here to try and come back out with warm ups and getting everything back resumed.
So with math being math and we all know how I am with the math thing.
So you're looking 5 minutes from now.
So 5 minutes.
We're looking at folks coming back out here on the field to see what's going on and hopefully come to a conclusion here.
Matt, for the final 1046.
All right.
I'm going to do my best John Nelson here.
And I'm going to run through some scores because I've been busy using the GPB sports app.
There you go.
There's the plug.
Down in region one, 6-A Valdosta.
Just laying it on Camden County.
I know you hit that score earlier.
Just astounding though.
The score right now, 63 19.
That's a Camden County team that had played for the last five opponents had been from the state of Florida.
But we had them number 10 in the 6-A poll.
They're just getting waylaid tonight in Kingsland.
Looks like they got a shootout going.
They're going to go down to the wire.
Lowndes leading Colquitt County 17 14.
That's in the fourth quarter at the.
The concrete jungle.
Isn't that what concrete palace?
What?
Nellie, which one do you call it?
One of those.
But the coach Martin Stadium, that's right there off I-75.
Battle of Five Forks.
Trickum.
That's a final.
Brookwood has defeated Parkview, 32 20.
The other big game in in region two, 58 tonight.
Thomas County Central ranked number 1 in our poll, leading Lee County 27 14.
That's in the third quarter.
Great game going on in Waycross in region one.
4-A Benedictine leading Ware County 30 27.
Leads southwest to Cab 31-7 BT.
And Savannah Christian tied at 20:09 in the fourth quarter.
Possible upset here.
North Clayton leading Stephenson 28 25, in the third.
Holy innocence leads Lovett 147.
I saved the best for last, though.
Tucker Pruitt, who was the head coach at Fitzgerald, went to Appling County.
Fitzgerald is leading Appling County right now, 76.
That's in the second quarter.
Weather warning delay, but it looks like we're coming out of it in just a few minutes, so stick around.
We got more football coming up here on GPB Sports Football Fridays in Georgia.

You see, the flashing.
Emergency light atop the press box here at Willie Cannon Field.
That means we continue to be in a lightning delay.
Although the good news is, it appears we're about to come out of that with Langston Hughes leading Newnan by a score of 26 to nothing.
We're going to send it off to our stream game for a moment.
Where Carver, Atlanta leads charter 14.
Nothing.
Starting the third quarter.
Reception.
On the last play of the first half.
And that's why we sit 14-0 here.
We get the kickoff from Carver.
It's hey, fill in those gold hats.
Taking the kick.
And did we get a fair catch?
Called for?
Maybe that's why we stopped him at the 36 yard line.
That's where hateful will take over again.
Have not had a lot going for them on offense tonight.
And really that's been the story of them all season.
They've been winning games.
On defense or keeping themselves close in games on defense.
Just 1-3 are the hate filled Hornets so far this year.
But they've played really, really tough schedule.
Back on August 22, took on Lee County.
Of course Lee County number 6 in 5-A this week.
Lost to them.
Lost at Cartersville.
Who's number 3 team in 4-A.
Winston Gordon, the head coach for Hateful Charter, told me that's the best team in the state.
Cartersville purple Hurricanes, regardless of classification.
So really tough games.
And they they went toe to toe with Westlake last week.
Came up on the short side.
Huge sack on the first play of the second half.
It was Quinton Moss coming in there.
510, 190 pounds.
Senior had 17 sacks or 17 tackles on the year coming in.
He's got a sack on the night right there and not the way you wanted to start.
If you're hateful.
Charter been struggling on offense, but they drew that one up.
Darren Miles and his team drew that one up in the half and they had him coming in there.
Hot Will linebacker Quinton Moss.
So second and a long way to go is Kenyon Pope throws it out there complete to his big tight end Patrick Reddick Keelan Pope is thrown a little bit tonight.
Had moderate success 510 junior quarterback welcome those who are watching our GPB game of Langston Hughes and Newnan there in a lightning delay.
They're happy to have you with us here as that is complete again for the first down.
Again, big Patrick Reddick number 19.
Making that catch Patrick and his twin brother petrol getting things done for Hapeville charter.
Both go both ways.
Both six four Patrick who you saw make that catch 255 pounds had a few catches in the first half.
They'll throw it again.
Pope hits a man right on the number, but Jaden Lambert could not hang on.
Had another big throw like that.
A deep pass that fell incomplete in the first half.
It was really a great opportunity for Hapeville charter that fell through the hands on a bomb and could not hang on to that one, so it'll be second down and ten.
Things starting strong for the Hornets here in the second half.
Keep this thing going big Chris Booker up there at left tackle Alabama commit.
They'll throw it out.
Swing it out.
Incomplete I'll say it was a forward pass not a fumble.
So third down and ten.
It'll be a chance to pin your ears back.
If you're a carver's off or defensive line.
And they have gotten after the quarterback a lot tonight.
It's all led by number 0 Michael Johnson, junior.
He's got his seventh sack of the season came earlier tonight.
He's not alone.
Tyree Williams big number 50.
He's been in the backfield a little bit.
So has Orlando crafted number eight.
So we'll see if they can get after Keelan Pope this time.
Third down and ten.
They're going to just run it.
And why not.
Travon Jones picks up about six.
He'll be short.
And this is a go for it kind of opportunity for coach Winston Gordon.
Now we've got a flag.
To try third down one more time.
Unless Darren Miles decides to decline it.
He's done that a little bit tonight.
But I think this time with it being so short, pretty sure they're going to go for it.
He'll push him back and let him try third down one more time.
And that ball going to be placed down at the 37 yard line here.
They've got to get all the way back up to the 43 on the other side of the field.
A long way to go.
One back in the backfield for Pope.
He's going to sprint left and throw left.
It is hit immediately.
Big Lamont Tucker 591 60.
Senior and penalties.
Boy they were an issue in the first half for both teams.
And the yellow starting to show up a little bit here to start this second half.
Again both teams ranked in the top ten.
They are in the same region.
Carver won their first region game a week ago, knocking off Washington 44-0 This is the first region game of the year for Hapeville charter.
Last year, this was the game that decided the region championship because of delays with hurricane.
We had the chemical leak last year.
This game was played the final game of the regular season.
We brought it to you here on GPB.
It was a game that Hateful Charter won 15-12 over at Banneker High School.
They could very, very likely decide the region again here, although there's a long way to go.
Looked like we got offsetting penalties.
So the third try at third down will happen here.
People still kind of running.
Some folks out there.
Can't figure out where they want to be.
Oh they'll change it.
It is fourth down.
So it'll be punting time for Hayfield Charter.
So drive that started with a little promise and a first down will result in a punt and something to watch.
Is the man in orange shoes returning this punt as four star athlete terrace favors.
He's committed to Boise State.
He had the big interception and long return.
Just couldn't take it all the way as clock expired at the end of the first half.
Also had a 38 yard catch and run to set up the first touchdown of the day for Carver.
Atlanta.
But he is dangerous with the ball in his hands.
I expect they'll kick away from him and maybe to Michael Ball who's also back there.
Yeah, they'll kick it towards ball and he'll just let it bounce.
Hanging around the 37 yard line.
That's where it'll be down.
And that's where Carver will take over for the first time this half in Panthers put 14 up on the board in the first half.
They average about 39 points per game.
It's a high, high scoring offense.
Last two weeks, they put up 40-4 on Washington and back on September 5, 68-0 as they beat Mundy's Mill.
And a big reason is favors.
He gets about a quarter of the football field every time he touches the ball, which is just insane.
But 22 yards per carry is what he's averaging, and he's also 12th in the state in receptions.
Five came in with 565 yards, eight touchdowns.
So Carver will get going.
Quarterback Corey Fletcher, pistol formation.
They got early movement.
So it'll be a first and 15 for the Panthers.
We've also seen a lot of the tailback.
Latavius Step tonight.
He scored that first touchdown.
So had a 32 yard catch.
He's done a little bit of everything.
Also made a tackle on a punt.
Tackled the punter on a bad snap.
So number 2 has been all over the place as well.
Number 8 Orlando Crafton's had a couple big catches in the first half.
He's set up as the tight end on the right side.
They'll give it to step.
And it was a jailbreak coming in there with big number 13.
Petrol.
Reddick.
So we mentioned Patrick Reddick on the offensive side.
Now he plays defense too.
But so does his twin brother petrol.
And that was him right there six 4225 pounds senior.
So you got 19 out there.
You got 13.
The twin brother Hornets.
And that'll bring up second and very long for this Carver offense.
Hateful is like I said they're all about the defense.
They're playing some of the lowest scoring football games in the state right now.
Fletcher looking to throw this time.
He puts it up.
He's got a man complete to ball.
Did ball hang on to the ball.
And he did with those pink gloves.
And it's a first down for Carver.
So Fletcher bought a little time looked downfield.
And there he found number 5 Michael Ball.
The 510 senior 170 pounds has a couple touchdowns over 100 yards rushing on the season.
But a huge pickup right there.
So you get the tackle for a loss.
You get the penalty.
But overcoming that is this Carver offense now in business and into Hayfield territory.
They'll give it to step.
He'll cut it up the middle cuts back now gets a block from favors.
They grab him by the jersey, but not after he gets 15 yards.
And another first down.
I'll tell you.
Step right there.
Very dangerous.
Carver team.
Coach Darren Miles feels like he's been the head coach here forever.
Could this be the year he's got the team to get that first state championship?
They played for one hand it off to step again up the middle.
Swarm of Hornets.
Big 13 Reddick.
Reddick right there in the middle of it.
We do have a player shaken up for Hayfield Charter.
He'll get looked at so got a yard maybe on first down it'll be second down and nine.
And what a statement this would be for Carver.
If they can come down here, punch one in on their first drive of this half, get up three scores.
With the way Hayfield offense has just kind of sputtered along tonight.
You'd feel really good about yourself.
Looks like everybody's back on their feet there.
Good news.
Make sure we get everybody hydrated.
We got we've avoided.
And we'll knock on wood.
As we say, it avoided the rain here tonight.
Not been the case all over the state.
Of course.
Our main GPB game.
Newnan and Langston Hughes getting delayed in the second half.
There was all Panthers there.
It's been all Panthers here.
Carver.
Atlanta threatening again as they get the ball right down at the 22nd down and nine.
And they got too many folks out there.
But when you don't huddle you can't break the huddle with too many guys.
They'll snap it.
Fletcher what happened now we did get a flag.
Everybody not set.
He will call a substitution infraction right there.
And move him on back.
So a little handshake out there.
That was a nice show of sportsmanship.
Was that step shaking hands?
One of the big defensive linemen for Hayfield Charter.
Love that these two teams.
A little jawing did happen as they were both warming up right in the middle of the A in the middle of this field.
They had to wait this game delayed about 45 minutes as we had to wait for the first game here at Lakewood to finish Therrell and Washington.
A Bulldog win, by the way.
Throwing it up incomplete as the outstretched arms of Gavin Hill, the senior already has one touchdown that would have given the second on the season.
It'll bring up third and 15.
And we're back at Willie Cannon Field.
The weather delay is over and we resume action with Langston Hughes on top of Newnan 26 to nothing and the Cougars facing a third down and two at their own 28 here early in the fourth quarter.
Matt Stewart Wayne Gandy and John Nelson, thanks for sticking with us through the lightning delay.
And Campbell heavy rush being chased by Brown-Braxton throws on the run incomplete.
It's fourth.
Down.
So the homecoming king got in there, applied the pressure.
Brown-Braxton quick!
Off the ball right there.
Just no time to set up and read the field for Campbell.
Great pressure.
You can see the offense is going to stay out here.
Where Newnan a little limp in the Campbell's walk right there.
I think he these guys have been in the locker room a long time.
Body got a little stiff trying to warm back up.
Watch the ball, watch.
The ball.
477 total yards of offense tonight for Langston Hughes in just 169 for Newnan.
Fourth and two.
And they'll try to pick up the first down right here.
Handoff goes to Greer.
Greer is not going to get there.
And the ball is going to go over on downs.
As the Panthers come up with the stop there at the line of scrimmage.
Nice job up front Donovan Stoker number 99.
Jaylen White in there as well.
Just a big tackle here.
Big hit coming off that edge with pressure is Griggs.
We haven't called his name a lot tonight but he has been a productive player here for Langston Hughes over the years.
Yep.
Guy Griggs.
He had 138 tackles last year as a junior and the ball goes over on downs.
And Kelly back in there at quarterback.
They run a screen pass to McKinney out there on the edge.
And he gets tackled at the 20 1 yard line by Brewer.
You got to believe that head coach Andrico Hines this passing game.
He just wants to see some some plays up 26-0 The way they can run the ball.
You feel like this function of him throwing the ball here late has just been.
He knows he has to get that part of his offense going.
The run game is there.
The offensive line is there, but can he throw the ball in those times when he needs to have his team go into that mode?
Yeah, they have only 148 yards passing here tonight.
Not that they have needed more than that.
Second down and one coming up Kelly ten of 14 passing 117.
He went to the bench after he threw his second interception of the night at Aminu came in and threw a touchdown pass.
The sophomore.
But now Kelly back in there on second down Kelly going to the air.
And it's caught by McKinney.
And that's going to be a first down inside the five yard line.
Nice arm strength right there by Darnell Kelly a long out route here.
You can see big throw ball in the air a long time.
Nice delivery to McKinney out on the edge.
Pick up the first down.
Not quite.
The five.
Got pushed out of bounds there at the nine.
So first and goal to go.
Trips up top and once again bringing the information in from the sideline.
And this is when they've had a little struggle.
When they get the play in late.
Kelly doesn't have the time to survey the field.
Byrd Kelly going to run it on a quarterback draw and got stripped of the ball, and an offensive lineman fell on it for him at the eight yard line.
Got bailed out by Zavion Baker the right tackle.
What a big draw.
Reading the end.
Nice job right there.
By Lawless jumping in there.
Just pulling that ball.
And then Baker able to jump on it for his quarterback and save this drive.
So that was nearly a third turnover by Kelly tonight.
So second down and goal.
Hand off goes to Baker Baker into the end zone for the touchdown.
Untouched.
First touchdown of the night for Carson Baker in the 32nd of his career.
Makes it 32 to nothing.
Great job on that left side.
Big left tackle Adams left guard Denim Welch and the center Jermaine Harris securing that left corner.
Just reading the end.
Handing the ball off.
Good job by the line of walk in there by Carson Baker.
And with that eight yard touchdown run by Baker, he goes over 100 yards rushing for the night up to 102.
That is his tenth career 100 yard rushing.
Game.
Brock P.a.t.
Is good.
33 to nothing with 7-59 to play in this.
Game.
Great night running the ball for Langston Hughes 338 yards on the ground.

I've been checking food labels for years.
759 to play in this one and the lightning siren just went off again after Langston Hughes just scored on the touchdown run by Carson Baker to make it 33 to nothing.
Again, the officials are going to have to clear the stadium.
The players are going to have to go to the locker room.
Fans are going to have to leave the stands and now you imagine that the coaches and the administration are going to meet with the score being even bigger now at 30:03 zero.
Coaches, they're going to call, you see, Andrico Hines and they're going to bring in Coach Chip Walker here.
And John Nelson is right down there in the middle of it.
This one really coming over us.
The White Book says we stay and determine a winner.
We'll stay as long as y'all say.
But if y'all can determine that y'all want to call it at this point, that's.
You can see it looks like Chip Walker is looking at the radar map themselves.
We have not had any rain here at all, although we know there's storms going on around.
Starts at 10:38.
So we're looking at 11:08 at the earliest that we're starting back.
But we can stay as long as y'all want to stay.
Okay.
All right.
We'll.
11 0-8 the earliest.
There you go.
So go beyond that.
So that's that's where we are.
That's what that's what Tim Smith and the crew are saying is that it could go beyond that.
But that's where we are.
We're back on the clock and we'll kind of see what's going on as we're in delay number 2, version 2.0.
So there you go.
That's the latest.
And we'll see what's up.
But good job there Nelly getting the mic in there so we don't have to explain anything.
Everybody at home let them know exactly what's going on.
Yep.
So there you go.
We're we are in another weather delay.
A lightning delay is really what it is.
It's we don't have any rain.
We don't have any wind.
We don't have anything other than lightning.
Somewhere within a seven mile radius.
So we're going to go back to Cody Chaffins.
He's standing by there at Lakewood Stadium.
Fortunately, we got a game going on that we can show you, and they started later than we did because that was they were playing a doubleheader there at Lakewood Stadium tonight.
So that did not kick until eight.
So it's already tracking behind us anyway.
So we're going to send you back to our stream game at Lakewood Stadium.
Carver Atlanta and hate filled charter.
Now to kick it is Carson Dill.
It's up and it's good.
So Hayfield Charter wakes up first.
Touchdown drive of the night and they are back into this thing 147 and an 80 yard drive for the Hornets.
After just being stuck in the mud.
It felt like for most of the night and huge responsibility goes to Travin Jones the long run down to the two yard line and Hornets punch it in from there.
Shout out to the drumline.
So we'll see.
If Carver can answer here.
Again, not used to giving up points.
Shout out, shout out, shout out.
We got a ball game for 25 to go in the third quarter.
This is what we expected in this kind of game.
Top ten showdown in class.
Double A two ranked teams.
Make some noise.
While they got very different records coming in 1-3 hippos been in battles.
They were leading Westlake 6-A Westlake last week.
In the fourth quarter.
Just came out on the wrong side of things.
Just defense lets them hang around.
Loud.
As you can see.
Played Lee County into the second half.
Ended up losing down in Leesburg.
But.
Nothing nothing.
Game at half.
They get to hang around with these teams.
That gives you a puncher's chance.
And Carver had a chance.
They drove the ball down.
Could they have gone up 20-1 Nothing.
What kind of statement would that have been?
And it's a whole different ballgame right now at 14-7 And there we see the kick hits off a man jumping on it is Javonte Holt.
So Holt gets in there.
And Carver takes over.
See if they can answer.
It was Trayvon Jones, the running back who capped off that touchdown drive.
Now Carver.
All right.
See what?
Fire it up.
Let's go back.
They'll take over 38 yard line.
Four wide running back is stepped.
Here comes that hayfield.
Defense step gets around the corner.
Left side.
He's past midfield.
Oh, it's not step.
It's number 7.
Running that ball Gavin Hill.
And it's coming back the other way.
He was coming after him.
He got the edge.
But officials say illegally.
So holding penalty will make it first down and 20.
A nice little change of pace right there with Gavin Hill running the ball.
Seen a lot of Latavius step as well.
And it's still Hill out there now Hill 510160 pound senior.
He's caught caught the ball as well.
Had over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown this year.
He's also run the ball a little bit for this Carver offense.
Replay snap.
So we've got.
Seven in the backfield again.
Fletcher getting pressured.
There's a flag for another hold.
Ball thrown up though is a center field kind of moment right there for Xavier Crawford the sophomore could not come down with the interception.
They would have declined that holding penalty.
If you could have got the pick.
But another back to back holding penalty.
So first down now in 30 for Carver.
Things going his way.
Petrol Reddick and his brother Patrick both big guys.
And they are causing trouble.
So the ball now inside the 2018 yard line.
They got to get it all the way out to the 48.
I'm not great at math to figuring all these out, but I can tell you that's 30 yards.
First down.
Now you got to figure out a way to get it to Favre's right.
If he's going to pick up 20-2 every time he touches it well they go screen almost picked off.
That screen was absolutely read by Patrick Reddick.
And he he catches that he might score.
He plays a little tight end as well.
Thought he had that.
That was Rashad Williamson sorry.
Nine not 19.
So Williamson will give him credit.
Another senior on this defense right there in the middle of things getting things done.
So now second down and 30.
They'll throw it up flag though it definitely was.
That was Crawford Xavier Crawford just grabbing on to Michael Ball because he was getting out in front of him.
I get to 15 yards.
Not a spot foul like we see other times.
Yeah 17 the sophomore.
So you got two.
Crawford's out there.
His brother comes over.
Give him a little motivation Zion Crawford number 1 cornerback on the other side.
Crawford's.
On the official call.
There will be holding against hate.
Holding that time not pass interference.
Move him up now.
They get the ball at the 28.
So only second down and 20.
Now instead of a 30.
Did not get the automatic first down.
They'll hand it off and wrapped up right about the line of scrimmage as Gavin Hill.
So not seeing step right now.
Now scanning the sidelines to see.
Number 2-0 we got another flag.
He's been a busy night for the Men in Stripes and emotions running high.
It's a lot of it's happening with the wide receiver type blocking.
And you know just one of those things young guy out there just trying to block.
This is sophomore Fletcher I think is who they got for it.
He's getting some words of advice from the older senior step.
So police department.
Step goes over there.
Gives Kerry Fletcher some words of advice as he got called for that flag.
So that's a cool, cool moment of senior leadership from step who again is not in the game at the moment, which is a little bit of a surprise as Gavin Hills in there and the running back spot.
But we are back to the 19 yard line.
So third down, 29 to go.
We'll see what happens as plenty of time to throw.
Just not quite long enough as a two yard gain on third down.
There is just going to bring the punting unit out, so we're going to get the ball back with a chance to tie this thing up.
Carver could not get anything going, just penalties, killing that drive before it even had a chance to get going.
They went backwards.
Drive started at the 38 and they will now punt it from the 18.
So -20 yard drive.
Not what Carver wanted but a credit to the hateful defense drawing those penalties and a terrible punt.
After all of that he got it.
They're going to return it.
Are they going to take this thing back down the right sideline?
Is it a touchdown.
Did he fumble it through the end zone.
No.
They say he's down at the two yard line.
We do see another flag on the play.
But a terrible punt and kind of a heads up play right there as they grabbed it.
And they were trying to return that thing for a touchdown.
Spotted at.
Number 17 Xavier Crawford who's name we had called a lot tonight as the receiver.
Crawford with the punt return.
It almost reminds me of Christopher Smith a former hate filled Charter Hornet.
You think back to what was at the SEC championship against LSU where they had blocked the field goal.
And he waited, waited and picked it up and ran it.
That was kind of one of those kind of moments where it's like, oh, look what I got.
I guess I'll just go.
The penalty will bring it back to the 34 yard line, but still great field position for hateful charter as they look to tie this thing up.
So what a swing we have seen.
And they're going to ask the Carver band to settle down.
Band trying to help out the defense a little bit.
So.
Definite advantage here now.
Hateful charter not able to take advantage of getting the ball in plus territory in the first half.
Can they capitalize this time around again the slow snap they throw it's complete to Reddick for about 5 yards on first down.
And to his credit, Pope has done a good job.
Keelan Pope, the quarterback for hateful charter, done a good job handling those snaps that just aren't getting back there.
Very crisply.
But he's making the most of him.
Big pickup on first down.
There inside the 30.
Now looking to tie this game with a minute 52 to go in the third quarter.
They'll give it right side.
Flag on the play.
Up easy is number five.
Trayvon Jones.
They'll call holding this time against hateful.
So we have seen a lot of holding calls.
They say you could call it on every play.
Like that's the old cliche right.
Well yes, you actually can call it on every play.
It seems like in this game you can and you are.
So there you go, walking it back.
I'll try second down again, this time.
Make some noise.
Second down and a market.
Up.
And that new Atlanta y'all.
At the 37 yard line.
Got to get down to the no.
You're gonna mark it from the spot of the penalty I guess.
It'll make some noise.
So second down and eight.
Cobb will make some noise.
He'll give left side and swallowed up.
Macari rivers.
No.
They got a ball.
Got the ball.
Carver comes up with a fumble.
So there you go.
Turnover.
Stadium and Carver getting the football.
And the hateful sideline.
Not real happy with it.
Ladies and gentlemen, please keep calm I'll repeat please do not move.
Do not move.
Do not move from the schools.
Police department is under control.
And we got some things going on in the stands right here.
Out.
Everyone, please return to your seats.
Not affecting the play on the field.
There.
They got the ball in play.
And Carver's got the football there.
Step taking off.
Right side.
First down on first down.
But boy oh boy.
We see another flag fly.
This game here in Fairburn, Georgia is officially a final Langston Hughes a 33 nothing winner over Newnan game called.
The remainder of it was 7:59 to go.
We had another lightning strike and Newnan said if it's going to push, push past the past the 11 0-8 deadline that we'd set for the current lightning weather delay that we were in, that that would be it.
So that's it.
33 nothing.
Langston Hughes gets the win.
They improve to six and oh on the season and 3-0 in the region.
And Newnan drops to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the region.
Now we do have a Georgia Cotton Commission player of the game to announce and award.
And we're going to send it down to John Nelson.
This is one of the few times I actually get to to wear the towel on the shoulder.
And obviously it's going to go to Quantavious Wiggins tonight.
Eight rushes for 230 yards, three scores on the night.
And so for Langston Hughes Q gets the towel and Q gets the hat.
I'm not going to wear the hat.
But you see right here at towel right there.
Both of those are going to number 1 for Langston Hughes.
Thank you Christy.
One other thing before we go from down here, just a quick shout out from the ref crew.
They lost one of their own Juan Torres.
The white hat traditionally.
And so it's a white hat.
They lost him this week, and so they had heavy hearts, and they had Gates on the back of their of their hats tonight, once again, fantastic effort.
We were close to seeing how many what the record is for rushing yards in a game.
230 on eight.
I know that's probably the biggest average we've had, Matt, when it comes to rushes per attempt.
And so 8-2 30 is probably close to 30 yards a carry.
28.8.
Thank you.
28.8.
So rounding up to 28.8 and going from there.
So that's the rundown eight for 230 Q gets the hat.
He gets the towel.
And I probably could use one on the way.
Rushing out to the parking lot.
That's the story from down here once again.
And that's a night for yours.
All right.
Thank you very much, Nelly.
Good work down there.
During this weather delay.
