Gov. Murphy expected to sign measure extending grace period for nonpayment of bills

A moratorium protecting NJ residents from having their utilities cut for nonpayment of bills is to expire on Dec. 31, but the Legislature passed a bill Monday extending the grace period for certain sewer and water customers through March 15. Gov. Murphy is expected to sign the new protection. State rules already prohibit gas and electric shutoffs during the winter for many low-income residents.
