Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipAfter being hit with violations from the state attorney general's office, five towns have agreed to fix their websites for discriminating against LGBTQ+ residents applying for a marriage license.
The state contends the towns at one point published marriage license forms online with language limiting them to heterosexual couples only and restricted gender options to only male and female, forcing nonbinary and transgender residents to misgender themselves.
The municipalities range from Estell Manor in Atlantic County to Linden and South Toms River.
The municipalities agreed to create policies that prohibit discrimination, remove limiting language from their websites and train employees on the state's discrimination law.
