Last week, a New Jersey train lost power and stranded passengers in a tunnel without air conditioning for nearly 3 hours.
The train left Penn Station on Wednesday around 7 p.m. and due to an Amtrak power disruption, lost power in the tunnel under the Hudson River.
According to Bloomberg, which first reported the story, commuters experienced panic attacks and medical issues as they waited on a stifling hot train for hours before finally being towed back to New York.
Ebonique Edwards was on that train on Wednesday night.
I think that experience was traumatic and I saw a lot of people having panic attacks.
And thankfully, I wasn't one of those people.
And I think that the clothes and the power of us really need to look into why this is happening and how they can fix this, because it seems like they don't care about their patrons.
They don't care about their customers.
Based on the experience that I had for that 3 hours in 90 degree weather.
It doesn't seem like they care about our health and our safety.
Congressman Frank Pallone called the incident a complete failure.
He's calling for Amtrak to prioritize interests for improvements from its federal funding and for NJ Transit to improve communication with passengers who are stranded or delayed.
NJ Transit told us in a statement that they, along with Amtrak, are still investigating the incident and that keeping passengers onboard the train was the safest option available.
