(cheerful music) - Pioneer Theatre Company brings the hilarious backstage farce Noises Off to the stage, and artistic director Karen Azenberg joins us with a look behind the scenes.
Hi, Karen.
Thanks for being here.
I'm so happy you're bringing this back.
- It's so fun.
You know, it always, when we put it on a survey, it always pops right to the top.
People just remember that it is a great time.
- Oh my God.
It's laugh-out-loud funny.
- Oh yeah.
- The whole way through.
- Oh yeah, slamming doors, and falling downstairs, and tripping, and sardines.
Get the joke (Mary laughs) if you see the show.
- Alright.
And it's been 20 years since you've done it.
- It has been.
- Wow.
- It's crazy.
- Yeah.
Yeah.
- And people will say, "You just did it."
I'm like, "I don't know, not quite."
- Yeah.
- So come back.
- And so it's a great, behind-the-scenes look at what goes wrong during a play.
- It's really fun, so it shows you a rehearsal of the play, and then, spoiler, the set spins around, and now you're seeing the backstage version of what's going on, and then it spins back, and then you're seeing the performance version.
It's messy and it's fun.
(Mary laughs) - Yeah, and it's kind of hard to remember which is which sometimes.
- Yeah.
- Yeah.
- The backstage show can be just as entertaining as what's actually on the stage in the play.
- Exactly, exactly.
And so who are you bringing in to star?
- So we have a whole bunch of people, Linda Mugleston, who was here last year in "Souvenir," which some folks may remember playing the very crazy Florence Foster Jenkins, is back as Dotty Otley, the star of the play, both in the play and our production.
- [Mary] "Noises Off."
- So it gets confusing, and there's a good mix of returning folks who have been at Pioneer before, as well as there's a student intern from the Department of Theatre in the production.
So it'll really be familiar faces and some new surprises.
- [Mary] Great way to spend the holidays.
- Absolutely.
- Anyway, thanks so much for being here and bringing it back.
Thanks.
