A young St. Petersburg Times copy editor investigated the 1949 Groveland Four case.

Norman Bunin was a young copy editor at the St. Petersburg Times when he decided to look into the 1949 Groveland Four case. The trial had captivated the nation just months earlier, but the case didn’t add up to Bunin. Working on his own time, he conducted exhaustive research. His three-part series, published in April, 1950, cast grave doubt on the convictions of the three surviving defendants.
