Our Emily Sisk takes us to northern Kentucky, where U.S. news and World Report ranked a local facility there as the top hospital in the state.
It's certainly exciting to be named number one U.S. News and World Report.
Certainly exciting indeed for Saint Elizabeth.
Edgewood to be named the number one hospital in Kentucky.
The Kenton County facility outranked U.K. health care, which has been recognized as the best hospital for almost ten years in a row.
You know, Northern Kentucky, we kind of hide in the corner of the state, a lot of times, even locally, Cincinnati region for health care is very competitive.
It's probably some of our closest competition.
I think the good news is, as it makes us work to to be better at the care that we're delivering.
So what makes Saint Elizabeth Edgewood stand out?
Doctor Jim Horn says there are a few things, procedures that may have been done ten years ago.
15 years ago, in a university setting.
We can deliver those same procedures with great quality and great outcomes locally.
The hospital was recognized for its heart and vascular institution.
Doctor horn explained how one of their surgery techniques is groundbreaking for more than just the Commonwealth, beyond just the state of Kentucky.
Our, cardiac surgery program in particular, our minimally invasive cardiac surgery program.
Probably one of the best in the nation, if not in the entire world.
Just a few small portholes, that, surgeries performed through a camera, which leads to a significantly improved recovery time, less pain and faster discharge from the hospital.
There's only three other systems in the entire country that perform these type of surgeries routinely.
Their cancer center is also highly ranked.
Horn said this is largely because multiple providers can see the patient in one place at one time, which leads to less stress from you as a patient and faster and earlier decision making from the providers.
Horan pointed out that the U.S. News and World Report ranking is based on inpatient care, but Saint Elizabeth also does even more outpatient treatment.
The chief operational officer said while they are proud of the recognition, they'll continue serving the community just like they always have.
Every year we strive to be a little bit better than the year before.
So to, to see an outcome like this from an award standpoint, certainly validation of our, our work and our effort.
For Kentucky Edition, I'm Emily Sisk.
According to the U.S. News and World Report ranking, UC's Chandler Hospital came in at number two.
Baptist Health Lexington takes the third spot, and then Louisville based Norton Hospital and Baptist Health are numbers four and five.
