(lively music) - My name is Nyema Clark, and I am the founder and farm queen at Nurturing Roots.

Nurturing Roots is an urban farm located in South Seattle focused on building community through farming and sustainable agriculture education.

In communities of color, in urban environments, we don't get a chance to be on farms.

We don't get a chance to interact with animals in their natural habitats.

So for us, it's really being able to have a place that we can call home, you know, a place where folks can reminisce, can come back and feel restored.

Being able to have a space that has an abundance, and it's free, is super necessary.

Truly, Nurturing Roots, I think, has thrived because of community, but the network of individuals who have come by to either support physically, financially, mentally, just sharing it forward, just talking about it, being our spokespeople, it's like you never know how Nurturing Roots is gonna touch you.

So with our lease expiring, you know, we're really challenged with, can we stay?

You know, will our landlord accept our next offer?

My hope is that we can stay and that generations can thrive in that place, and the energy of folks that have come by can be felt forever.
