10 MILES FROM THE MUSEUM THERE IS A HIDDEN GEM SET WITHIN THE LARGEST PARK.
THE ONLY GRAND COUNTRY HOUSE STILL IN EXISTENCE OVERLOOKING THE BAY THE MUSEUM PROVIDES A LINK TO THE SOCIAL AND ARCHITECTIAL HISTORY.
VISITORS CAN TAKE GUIDED TOURS OF THE MANSION, THE CARRIAGE HOUSE, VIEW THE COLLECTION OF FURNACING, AND EXPLORE THE GROUNDS.
THE MANSION WE SEE TODAY WAS BUILT-IN 1846 WITH THE FAMILY OF ROBERT BARTOW AND THEIR SEVEN CHILDREN.
THE PREFERRED DESIGN FOR BUILDINGS AND FURNITURE WAS THE CLASSICAL STYLE WITH A SENSE OF BALANCE AND SER RENTY.

MATRIX EXPLORES THIS TIME PERIOD WHEN WOMEN WERE EXPLORING PRINT MAKING.
SO, WOMEN WERE EXPERIMENTING WITH ABSTRACTION IN THE 19 60s.
IN THE 70s THERE WAS A LOT OF ACTIVISM REPRESENTED IN THEIR ARTWORK.
MOVING TO THE 1980s YOU SAW A LOT OF DIFFERENT EXPERIMENTING PROCESS.
A LOT OF TYPES OF PRINTS MADE COMBINING THE APPROPRIATE PRINT TECHNIQUE.
ALLEN WAS A MEMBER OF THE NEW YORK SCHOOL OF ARTIST.
AFTER THE SOCIAL REALIST PERIOD DURING THE DEPRESSION THERE WAS ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM.
SOMETIMES PEOPLE FORGET WOMEN ARTIST WERE VERY CRITICAL TO THE EVOLUTION OF THAT STYLE.
HELEN WAS VERY PROMINENT AND WELL KNOWN.
SHE WORKED ON THE FLOOR LIKE JACKSON POLLIC.
SHE STARTED POURING PAINT ALL OVER AND EVOLVING COLOR FIELD PAINTING.
SO, WHEN SHE WORKED IN THE WOOD CUT LIKE ONE OF HER MOST WELL KNOWN PRINTS SHE TRIED TO USE THE WOODBLOCK TO GET THAT MOTION OF THE PAINT.
GOING ACROSS THE SURFACE.
SHE BECAME FLUSTERED WITH TRYING TO GET THE RIGHT EFFECT AND DOING THINGS LIKE SCRAPING OFF THE PAINT AND ADDING LAYERS OF PAINT AND FINALLY GOT THIS PIECE.
MIRIAM SHAPIRO IS A BIG FIGURE.
SHE'S IMPORTANT AS A FEMINIST ARTIST AND IN THE PATTERN AND DECORATION MOVEMENT.
THIS EMBRACED WOMEN'S CRAFTS AND ARTS AND ELEVATED THEM TO FINE ARTS.
A LOT OF WOMEN ARTIST REALLY LOOK UP TO FRITA AS AN ICONIC FEMINIST AND BROUGHT WOMEN ISSUES TO THE SUBJECT MATTER OF ART AND HER OWN RELATIONSHIP WITH BEING A WOMAN.

THE REST WAS FASCINATED BY THE SHAPE, COLOR, AND STYLE OF KIMONO.
IT INSPIRED PAINTINGS AND LATER FASHION DESIGNS.
MANY PEOPLE ASSUME THE BEGINNING OF FASHION IS IN ITALY OR FRANCE.
HOWEVER, IT'S VERY SOPHISTICATED NETWORK BETWEEN THE CUSTOMERS AND PUBLISHING INDUSTRY.

THEY COME FROM THE HISTORY OF THE KIMONO AND USE JAPANESE TECHNIQUES SUCH AS THE ONE WE CAN SEE IN THE EXHIBIT WITH THE COLORFUL PEACOCK.
THE DEVELOPN'T OF THE MODERN DEPARTMENT STORES BASED ON WESTERN DEPARTMENT STORE IDEAS THEY STARTED TO USE WESTERN MARKETING STRATEGIES INCLUDING POSTERS, POSTCARDS TO PROMOTE SEASONAL TRENDS.
THESE KIMONO A SPECIALTY GROUP WAS RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE.
MADE OF LOW GRADE SILK WITH BRIGHT COLORS.
IT WAS VERY POPULAR WITH WORKING-CLASS WOMEN.

WITH THE HELP OF THE INSTITUTE WE WERE ABLE TO HIGHLIGHT THE ARTISTIC CONVERSATION BETWEEN DESIGNERS AND WESTERN DESIGNERS.
WITH JOHN THE STORY TOOK A TURN.
THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE PATTERN BUT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE KIMONO.
THEY WERE INTERESTED IN GETTING WOMEN OUT FROM THE CORSET.
THAT WAS A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AND RESTRICTIVE GOREMENT.
THIS WAS THE P PERFECT SOLUTION.
HE WASN'T GOOD AT THIS SO HE PREFERRED TO DRAPE THE GARMENT RATHER THAN TAYLOR IT.
SO, IT'S HANGING FROM THE SHOULDER.
IT HAS STRAIGHT LINES WHICH IS HOW KIMONO WOULD HAVE BEEN CONSTRUCTED.
SHE STUDIES THE STRUCTURE AND IT WAS ACTUALLY INSPIRED BY THE STRUCTURE.
THESE EARLY DESIGNERS LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR THE NEXT GENERATION.
THE JAPANESE DESIGNERS THAT TOOK OVER PARIS AND LONDON IN THE IS THE 70s AND 80s.
THEY USED KIMONO AS A SOURCE AFTER THEIR PHILOSOPHY ABOUT HOW A GARMENT SHOULD EN D INVELOP TE BODY.
THKIMONO WAS A CATALYST FOR THE EUROPEAN FASHION TRENDS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 20th CENTURY.

CATS ESTABLISHED HIMSELF AS AN ARTIST IN THE MID 20th CENTURY NEW YORK AT A TIME WHEN THE ABSTRACT CANVASS OF PAINTERS LIKE JACKSON AND MARK PLACED THE CITY OF THE CITY OF AVANGARD.
ATTA HIS WIFE AND MOST ICONIC SUBJECT IS FUTURED ACROSS HIS BODY OF WORK.
HE PETARIED HER IN MANY FORMS.
