THERE ARE 10 MILLION MANUSCRIPTS, PHOTOGRAPHS, BOOKS, DIE RES AND A MYRIAD OF OTHER MATERIALS AMONG THEM.
THE PRINTING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, THE 1803 DOCUMENT AUTHORIZING THE SALE OF THE LOUISIANA TERRITORY, IT'S THOUGHT TO BE USED TO TOAST THE AN 1851 THE SITTER IDENTIFIED AS CAESAR BORN A SLAVE IN 1737 AT BETHLEHEM, NEW YORK.
HE DIED IN 1852.
THE LAST SLAVE TO DIE IN THE NORTH.
EVERY YEAR, THE LIBRARY PROVIDES THOUSANDS OF RESEARCHERS INSIGHT INTO THE HISTORY OF THE ORG AND THE NATION.
CURRENTLY ON VIEW AT NEW YORK HISTORICAL IS A LANDMARK EXHIBITION IT FEATURES AN EXTRAORDINARY DROVE OF OVER 100 HAND-MADE BLACK DOLLS FROM THE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF DEBORAH NESS.
THIS COLLECTION HAS NEVER BEEN ON DISPLAY IN NEW YORK.
THEIR OWN CHILDREN OR FOR WHITE CHILDREN UNDER THEIR CARE.
THE NESS COLLECTION INCLUDES SEVEN TOPSY-TURVY DOLLS, BLACK AND WHITE JOINED AT THE WAIST.
A DOLL IN A GENTLEMAN'S TOPCOAT, AND A DOLL IN A FEED SACK DRESS.
FROM ANOTHER PRIVATE COLLECTION, OUR THREE DOLLS MADE BY HARRIET JENKINS FOR THE WHITE CHILDREN WITH WHOM SHE WORKED AFTER HER ESCAPE FROM SLAVERY.
THE AMERICAN GIRL DOLL ADDY WALKER IS ON DISPLAY AS WELL AS OVER 200 OBJECTS INCLUDING PERIOD PHOTOS AND ART.
THE EXHIBITION IS A UNIQUE INROAD INTO A CONVERSATION ABOUT THE LEGACY OF SLAVERY AND RACISM IN OUR COUNTRY.

IT IS CERTAINLY BEEN A CHALLENGING TIME FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS HERE AND ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
BUT NEXT MONTH, THE COMPANY WILL PERFORM AS PART OF THE FIRST CITY CENTER DANCE FESTIVAL.
THE EVENT WILL FEATURE NEW YORK COMPANIES MAKING THEIR RETURN TO CITY CENTER AFTER MORE THAN TWO YEARS AWAY.
THEY WILL PERFORM THE WORLD PREMIERá-- CHOREOGRAPHED BY ANNA BELL LOPEZ.
IT IS ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE AND CONTROVERSIAL WOMEN IN HISTORY.
THE FULL EVENING LENGTH WORK BRINGS TO LIGHT THE EXTREMES OF POWER.

IT'S ABOUT GIVING ACCESS TO ANYONE.
STUDENTS CAN COME AND STUDY ALL GENRES.

WE CELEBRATE FUSION.
WE'RE HONORING HISTORY AND TAKING IT 0 THE FUTURE.

A FUSION OF CULTURES AND STYLES.

AFRICAN, SPANISH, AND ALSO MANY DIFFERENT FORMS OF MUSIC IN CUBA.
A LOT OF CHALLENGES OF BRINGING IN A NEW DANCER TO WORK LIKE THIS IS STYLE.
SO EACH CHOREOGRAPHER HAS THEIR OWN STYLE AND GENRE.
FOR ME, YOU KNOW, TO GET A DANCER TO BE VERY TECHNICAL AND AT THE SAME TIME GROUNDED IN THE CUBAN MOVEMENT IS A CHALLENGE.
♪ >> SOMETIMES IT'S EASY TO PUSH THE TECHNICAL ASPECTS.
THE ARTISTRY, THE INTENTION.
THAT'S SOMETHING ELSE.
IT IS A WONDERFUL PROCESS BECAUSE IT'S THERE THAT THE ARTIST LEARNS A LOT OF THEMSELVES AND THEN REFLECTS IT BACK.
THAT REFLECTION IS IN THE PERFORMANCE AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

>> NONE OF THE DANCERS ARE ACTUALLY ALIKE WHEN IT COMES TO PERSONALITY LIKE CHARISMA, QUALITY OF MOVEMENT.
SO I NEED TO WORK AROUND THE 360 VIEW OF, LIKE, HOW THE DANCER CAN USE THE MATERIAL AND NOW MAKE IT HIS OWN AS A DANCER MYSELF.
IT'S LIKE I SAID SOMETHING I WAS DOING THE SOLO.
NOW I WANT THE PERSON TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY AND THE SPACE TO FIND THEIR OWN MESSAGE TO SHARE.

SO IT'S NOT ONLY ABOUT EMBRACING THE LATIN CULTURE BUT ABOUT BRINGING YOUR OWN CULTURE IN AND EMBRACING THAT, AS WELL.
>> AN EXCITING PART OF BEING A DANCER IS GETTING THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE THESE DIFFERENT VOICES.
WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DANCERS, THEY'RE SO DIVERSE.
THAT DIVERSITY COUPLED WITH THE VOICE AND THE MISSION ALL TOGETHER, THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT SO RICH.
>> EVERY CHOREOGRAPHER THAT COMES HERE TO MAKE A PIECE GETS THAT CONVERSATION WITH ME ABOUT CULTURE.
THEY DIVERT DIFFERENTLY.
WE'VE RUN THE RANGE FROM MY WORK THAT IS FULL OF LATINO/CARIBBEAN MOVEMENT TO RON K. BROWN THAT IS MORE AFRO CENTRIC TO VERY ABSTRACT AND TO WHO GREW UP IN BULL GUM WITH A PARENT FROM COLOMBIA.
IT REALLY SHOWS US THE DEPTH OF HOW CULTURE AFFECTS EACH ARTIST.
LIKE MICHELLE'S PIECE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE.
