The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum currently hosts James Turrell’s first exhibition in a New York museum since 1980. Turrell describes light as a substance, something tangible that he has learned to work with like any other material. In the artist’s own words: “I utilize the material of light to affect the medium of perception.”
