- Congratulations to Tim Skubick, the Capitol Press Corps, WKAR, MSU, and all the Michigan public television stations that have aired "Off the Record" statewide for the last 50 years.
I didn't know I was just a little older than the show.
An informed electorate is necessary for a strong democracy and you've kept Michiganders informed and up to date on what's happening in our state's Capitol building and we are all the better for it.
Congratulations.
- Congratulations, Tim, and the entire team at WKAR, also WCMU and all the public television stations and network.
50 years is a long time to be doing a show.
I was there in 1972 when this got started, they said that this show would succeed.
It has about as much chance as me being elected governor.
Well, guess what?
We both made it.
And I wanna congratulate you on so many years of covering state politics, state government, what happens in the executive and the legislative branch, sometimes the courts and frequently getting it right, not always but you've had a great run.
Congratulations.
And I think for many of us, who've been on this show, watched it from the beginning, we're just impressed that you've stuck with it.
And you performed a very, very important public service, and so to you and all the journalists have been with you, thanks for doing this.
Keep it up.
Keep going.
Maybe you can squeeze out 10, 20 more years.
All the best, and again, congratulations.
50 year anniversary is something to be very, very proud of.
- Congratulations, Tim, WKAR, Michigan State University and the entire "Off the Record" team for 50 years of successful time on the air.
Thank you for creating a great venue and forum for political and public policy discussions that can be done with civility.
Thoughtful forums that involve civility are more important than ever.
It's amazing what you've done over the past 50 years.
Now, I'm not old enough to have been there for all 50, but in the last few years, it's been great.
Not only that, but I look forward for many more years to come.
Now that you're at 50, let's go for 100.
- I wanna congratulate Tim Skubick, WKAR, Michigan public television, MSU, and the Capitol Press Corps for providing the people of Michigan quality journalism and good government for the last five decades.
It's quite a feat.
I'd like to think that I was in grade school when Tim Skubick started the show, but that's not true.
But what is true is that "Off the Record" is the one place statewide in Michigan, which has held our public officials accountable and provided our citizens with the facts and the issues involved with state government.
So it's been quality journalism, quality government that you all cared for.
We salute you for that.
Those are the precious pillars of democracy.
And so Tim and the team, congratulations, and we wish you many, many more.
I'll be watching, so will our friends.
So be kind.
Be kind.
Thanks.
- Hey everybody.
Jennifer Granholm here.
Wait, "Off the Record" is 50 years old?
For 50 years, Tim has been prying and poking and emailing and goading politicians of all stripes.
He's done these sort of unwelcome on the job media training for all of us.
He has for me, made me furious.
He's made me think, and he's definitely made me laugh.
He's used his star quality from "Off the Record" to get all kinds of scoops from the big to the absolutely minuscule, and he's done it with an incredible team.
Of course, the Capitol Press Corps, and WKAR, and MSU, and the Michigan public TV stations that air "Off the Record" around the state.
And most importantly, I think Tim would agree is that "Off the Record" has given Michigan citizens a way to hear how government works and how the employees that Michigan citizens have hired, Michigan's elected politicians, how those employees are doing on the job.
So bravo to "Off the Record".
I toast you, and here is to the next 50 years of service to the state of Michigan and its citizens.
Congratulations "Off the Record" and congratulations Tim.
