♪♪ ♪♪ Hello.
Welcome to the family concert.
I'm Diana Oh, and I describe myself as an open channel to the art that feels good to my body.
Today, you're going to see seven decades of my family in the studio, the youngest being my nieces, and the oldest being my mom.
My mom and I have had a pretty epic year together, as she unexpectedly became my muse and my artistic collaborator.
[ Chimes ] -Hi.
-Hi.
Hi, June Oh.
I think the people who are around my mother's age are a pretty special generation of Americans.
Over the past two years, I've been working on a documentary film and rock concert series called "The Gift Project", where I become friends with elders of marginalized experiences or identities, and I write them songs as gifts.
♪ I was a little shy maybe a little bit numb ♪ ♪ Well, what'd you'd expect from where I come from ♪ ♪ Uh-huh ♪ So my mother generously offered to be our first interview for the project.
Just kidding.
I had to beg her.
You need to understand, my mother has never let me post about her on social media, let alone write about her in my art.
So for you to see her on your screen is a big deal.
It is a huge deal.
Korean War.
North Korea attacked the South Korea.
So we have to escape.
The fact that she came along for this ride, collaborated with me, and she had a good time makes me feel incredibly grateful.
Wonderful!
[ Laughs ] Today you'll hear two songs I've written about my mother, performed to my mother, followed by a third song I sing for my father, who has now passed.
I'm so happy to share our intimate family concert with you.
Have fun.
[ Cheers and applause ] Hi!
Hi.
I'm Diana.
My pronouns are they/them.
And I'm so happy y'all are here.
There are seven decades of us, not generations.
I've been using the word "generations" wrong.
[ Laughter ] Wrong, okay?
Wrong.
Michael, the history teacher, was like, "Um, um..." [ Laughs ] And I was like, "Oh, oh, wow, wow, wow."
What really excited me is that y'all were coming into town.
Rachel Oh, West Coast producer, organized so many of you to come to do this Oh Family Concert.
Today I'm going to get to share some music with you with some of these phenomenal musicians, who I think are some of my favorite artists who I will ever come across in this life.
I'm so lucky.
It's it's the gift that New York City gives to people in the world.
It's a dream come true.
